Agree on Paulson ... she was very good last night.

And I actually found the Nancy Grace and the Nicholas Cage Show sketches funny ... so I guess I'm in the minority there.

  2. Keep in mind that it isn't all about ratings anymore.

NBC posts the show on its web site and I'd bet the download numbers from there have been pretty healthy. Combine that with the demographics and I bet NBC is making some coin of the advertisements on the show (both broadcast and web based)

ESPN Earns 10.3 Overnight Rating For Bears-Cardinals “MNF”

ESPN’s “MNF” earned a 10.3 overnight Nielsen cable rating for Bears-Cardinals last night, up 134% from a 4.4 for the comparable Texans-Seahawks Sunday night game on ESPN last year. The 10.3 ties ESPN’s best “MNF” overnight of the season. The game drew a 10.2 on ESPN and a 27.0 on WLS-ABC in Chicago, and an 11.8 on ESPN and a 14.2 on KTVK-Ind in Phoenix (THE DAILY).

QUARTERLY REPORT: Through the first five weeks of the NFL season, ESPN’s “MNF” averaged 12.9 million viewers and 7.1 million adults 18-49, “making it the No. 1 network on Monday nights in the demo and putting the lie to the notion that the prime-time pigskin audience would plummet” by shifting from broadcast to cable. Compared to the 15.1 million viewers ABC averaged during its final “MNF” season over the comparable time period, the program is down 15%, “a trifle” when considering ESPN reaches 84% of U.S. TV homes. Media buyers said ESPN gets around $200,000 30-second spots on “MNF” (MEDIAWEEK, 10/16 issue).

They've got the kid from the David Spade "What's in your wallet?" credit card commercials in the cast. But so far, he's been portrayed as being a bit player who isn't that good ... more like Sanz than Farley or Belushi.

I watched "What about Brian" last night, because Studio 60 also runs on Sunday nights where I live.
Definitely a chick show. Have to say it was a guilty pleasure I'll do back to, esp. because the WB has absolutely nothing goin' on there any more.

And Thursday nights, with Betty, Grey's and Six Degrees is now definitely chick "Must see TV".

    Exactly.

If these people are indeed more educated, I would think they would be less susceptible to the knee-jerk, impulsive buying responses that advertisers crave.

Oh, and if this isn't reason enough to check out Studio 60 next week ... a lot more Lauren Graham.

Wow. I wonder if people have a concept of how huge those numbers are for cable. We're talking some of the biggest numbers in cable history. Numbers so big they're touching the b'cast networks, which is amazing when you consider the distribution gap. Throw in the favorable demos, and this is crazy.

I admit I'm peeved at NBC. Their 'Football Night in America' annoys me for many, many reasons.

They have the arrogance to promote Studio 60 ad nauseam on Sunday Night Football as if to say, "Watch the NFL tonight!... But NOT tomorrow night!"

They've taken away NFL Primetime, my favorite highlight show ever.

They let Sorkin, a production guy, program. That riles me.

They claim an HD telecast and use several SD cameras...

But I'm sorry... I know you guys like the show... please ignore me and continue...

I really enjoyed last night's episode. I think it's very clever how they're using Lahti's character to help flesh out the background of most of the major players on the show. It's allowing the viewer to get to know them and become emotionally invested in them.
People need to stop comparing it to "The West Wing."
I know there are a ton of similarities, but this is an entirely different show and should be treated as such. Comparing it to arguably one of the Top 3 greatest TV dramas of all time is unfair, especially only after a handful of episodes.
I also don't come to the show for laughs. That's what 30 Rock is for. These first few episodes have given us a taste of what makes these characters tick and I have a feeling that as the season goes on, we're going to be in the middle of some serious shit with a lot of them, with a little comedy sprinkled in.

So far, I love Stephen Weber and D.L. Hughley. Weber's on the show just the right amount of time, but we definitely need more Hughley. I'm also enjoying the special guests and musical acts that are on the show. Makes for a nice surprise sometimes. It's also nice to see Matthew Perry in a quality show. Those final few seasons of "Friends" made me forget just how talented he is. And, any show that keeps Timothy Busfield and Bradley Whitford on my TV screen is quality in my book.

Oh, and Amanda Peet is hot.

Huh, I didn't know that the local ABC affiliates were also picking up the ESPN feed. Interesting. And the 84 percent of all homes for ESPN, does that mean 16 percent of the homes don't have cable or satellite or is it something else?
And back to Studio 60. The alpha consumer concept exists in publishing. If you look at your local business journal, it will have fraction of the local metro's circulation. But it can charge comparable ad rates since it reaches the decision makers, opinion leaders and the rich people who have disposable income.
While its true those people may have already established brand loyalty, to me, I'd rather reach people who have the money to spend, than those who don't.
Plus, I really want Studio 60 to stay on the air.
Does anyone have the Tivo numbers. They do a list of the most tivo-ed shows. I was wondering where Studio 60 ranked on it.

They do that in the local markets for the teams playing on MNF on ESPN ... Cable games have always been simulcast (at least in my area) on to a local over-the-air station if the local team was playing.
