Didn't realize, shot, that Sarah Paulson ... plays for the other team.

    Pity.

    Like I had a shot.

I really just want to let people where I stand, since so many posters are such big Sorkin fans they are with his shows come what may.
That's not an unreasonable stand. This show is better than the crap it's up against. But it's just not reaching me on some basic level, so its flaws/early problems bother me more than if it was striking a chord. Judging from the ratings, there are folks out there who agree with me.
Here's one theory. The backstage show biz show may just be a genre that's been done too often. A well-written shows about the highest level of government is easier to care about than its equivalent about a TV show-any TV show, let alone one that's a fictional version of a real-life show that's been overdue for a plug-pull for at least four seasons.
In short, it's like doing a fictional sports drama. Folks would rather watch real games. Studio 60's natural audience already knows the entire history of SNL.
Like I said (channeling Clemens there), there has to be some reason why the show's not making it in my head, and I haven't figured it out yet. So the above was all speculation, not a complaint. I will still keep watching, but I'm getting near the "this is the episode I make a decision" moment.

Her, um, girlfiend is (rather older) actress Cherry Jones, who played (spoiler alert) Matt Damon's mom in Ocean's 12 and also had a decent part in The Village. First openly lesbian Tony winner, it says.

Yep. She was in "Signs" for like three minutes too.

Cherry Jones is an amazin' friggin' actress. Sarah Paulson is lucky.

I agree. There is something about this show where I don't seem to care about the characters -- there is a lack of sympatico. It is well-acted and has the typical Sorkin flairs, but I watch it as a dispassionate observer, not really caring what happens. I can't see this show lasting past this season.

The first moment in the whole enterprise where I felt like Matt was a real human being and not just a character on a TV show was right at the end of the last episode. I'm still watching.

With NBC slashing costs, I'm worried this show might be on the chopping block if ratings don't improve by the end of the season. The production costs along with Sorkin and the actors' salaries can't be cheap.

I know the show is kind of one big cliche, and the last episode where Laila and Riggs made out in the rain (while Pearl Jam played) was borderline ridiculous, but I'm really digging Friday Night Lights. The second episode, especially then end where they had the pregame montage while Tony Lucca sang "Devil Town" was really freaking good.

As for Studio 60, I really like the show, and I think NBC will stick with it just because of Sorkin (even if this doesn't work out, he's eventually going to find the formula for a show that does, and he is one of the few "writers" who comes with a built in 4 million person audience). I doubt NBC wants to killed this show at midseason, pissing Sorkin off and potentially seeing him take his next idea to ABC or HBO.
