Tonight's was my favorite episode yet, and it's not even over.

Did I miss a sarcasm font? Because I was just thinking...'Wow. So...uneven, imho.' Some of it was downright painful and not in a 'hurts-so-good' way.

No sarcasm. I enjoyed it as a whole more than any of the others, but nothing imho beats the opening of the first one.

  4. Nice Sorkinism in the arc -- the young black comic/new writer, and the old guy from the 1950's. Reminded me a little of The Indians In The Lobby, and that WW episode where the Holocaust survivor recognizes her family's painting hanging in the White House.

    This episode was downright pathetic:

The shit with Tom and his parents - terrible!
The old man - hokey and formulaic.
D.L. Hughley, Chandler and the black comic - barely average.
Jordan McDere looking for friends on the set - GAFB (gimme a f***ing break).

I liked it, as Fenian said, in an Indians in the Lobby sort of way. So Sioux me.

Agreed. Worst episode yet. Didn't believe any of it.

    Guy and his parents-No.
    Perry, Hughly, and the writer-OK
The old guy=I knew the entire plot arc and half the damn dialogue before it started-Not so good.
Peet stumbling around seeking companionship-not so bad, but it almost seemed to shriek "Aaron, I'm a top-flight comedienne-give me something to do, please?"
Overall-a slight improvement on last week. In a very ominous sign, my daughter didn't watch. She plans to catch it over the weekend, but won't.

I have to watch Epi 1 yet. I really want to like this show.

Tonight's was not completely unbelievable -- just uneven.

I've found some people sometimes find awkwardness in art or film less believable than awkwardness in reality, when in reality they often seem to wish the art they're watching would be more believable. I think sometimes it is ... but they refuse to believe it.

    Or maybe I'm losing it.

I liked it, but couldn't figure out why, since I agree with most of the previous posters' criticisms. I think it was because this was the first show where Sorkin didn't preach. Hughley didn't go off on Matt so Sorkin could launch a diversity diatribe, he did it to show the character's history and motivations. He didn't have the old guy come on to launch a speech about blacklisting, but as a way of illumination. This was the first ep that felt like the recommendations from the USA Today article: he used the TV show as a backdrop for a show about personal and work relationships rather than as a vehicle to preach. It gives me some hope yet for the show.

Nah, I see what you mean. Some of the awkward moments on the show do bring a feel of reality. Overall, television characters in dramas are too cool to feel real.

BUT... I hated the stuff with Jordan tonight. Doesn't fit a character in that position. Not to mention the fact that they seem to be having a harder and harder time hiding the pregnancy.

I thought it was the worst episode yet. The signing of the baseball was easy, predictable and cringe-worthy. The rest was just ok.
