Next week on Studio 60: fresh new hire Jed Bartlett brings his old-school economy-laced humor to the writer's room! Stick around for the last five minutes, when through the magic of CGI, a drunken Amanda Peet makes out with Leo McGarry! C'mon ratings, don't make me call Moira Kelly!

One imminent development that has me cringing: Our latest TV Guide said the producers plan to work Amanda Peet's pregnancy into the storyline. I can't help but think we're treading into bad soap opera territory if that happens.

Well, the ball is rolling now. It won't survive this, even if it's just a rumor.

Hey, just put on another game fucking show. Let the dumbing down of America fester.

I read a list once of all the shows that NBC had passed on and went on to become hits on other networks.
    It was pretty staggering.
One other thing of note: Studio 60 is essentially a buddy show. Whitford and Perry going back and forth. Sports Night was the same way, as was West Wing, in its first season. Originally the President, played by Sidney Poitier, was going to be a background character. It was suppose to be a vehicle for Rob Lowe with Whitford playing the buddy.
The focus changed to the president and his interactions with the staff. It kept some of the buddy show thing going, but, for the most part, it went by the wayside.
The thing to watch, assuming NBC gives it the time to develop, is if the focus will change or will Studio 60 go the way of Sports Night, a show beloved by some, but eventually cancelled.
And I still think, as long as the show keeps its high-end demographic, that it will stay on the air.

No tears from me. Here's to bigger and better things for Sorkin - maybe something with Dear John.

It's probably already been said, and I have watched this only twice...

A show like this works on HBO. Period. We can pretend that White House staffers are the wordy psychopaths that Sorkin portrays them to be, but we just can't bring ourselves to it on the TV side. A backstage look into a comedy show better have some a-grade cursing, or it shouldn't exist.

But other than cursing, what would a move to HBO really help the show?

I think we need to realize this is a show that doesn't have great characters (Albie isn't that likeable, Tripp is warmed over Josh Lyman and as much as I want to convert Sarah Paulson to the cock, Harriet Hayes hasn't been dazzling, etc...all the good characters are secondary -- i.e. Busfield and Weber)...and the sketches aren't funny. Most importantly, Sorkin is doing a Sam-and-Diane with Albie and Hayes and it isn't working. We aren't rooting for their characters to be together. They are the quintessential couple where we like each of them separately, but we don't want them to be together (we all have that couple in our life). At this point, I just want them to have hate sex and get it out of their system.
