Running Studio 60 thread (spoilers)

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Chi City 81, Sep 18, 2006.

  1. I thought it was a good episode, but I am admittdely a big Sorkin fanboy. Compared to the rest of the dramas on TV right now, last night's episode was nearly as good as anything else out there. And it didn't have its big three stars in it. Knowing Sorkin's talent and arrogance, I almost wonder if that was by design. The writing was probably on the wall when they were filming these final six episodes so I wonder if he did this particular to prove a point -- even without the studs, I can write a damn good show.

Possible. I sure didn't miss Peet. Hate to see them waste a whole episode without Perry, though. His performances have been the the best thing about this show.

I didn't know they would air a new episode last night. I'm hoping that my DVR picked it up. I definitely missed this show. My wife was rather annoyed as well with the news.

The demographic audience that watches Studio 60 is similar to those that watch Friday Night Lights, Weeds, Sopranos, The Wire and Studio 60 is not on that level. Compared to the usual drek on TV it's written well but compared to the good stuff on TV, it's doesn't fare well by comparison. Those that are looking for good TV, don't like it and those that are part of the pwest common denomiantor, don't like it.

I agree with every word of that.

  6. No Perry, no Peet, no Whitford, and yet the dialogue was snappy, the physical comedy funny, and even tho you could see some of the gags a mile away, they were still brought a laugh, not a groan. No coincidence that Allison Janney was outstanding. Too bad they didn't figure it all out in time to save the show.

Just remember that not every MASH episode had all their main characters in it, either.

MASH had a lot more episodes than this one will end up with.

  9. Yeah, sorry. I should have clarified that I was comparing it what is on network TV.

I know, but it seems like the mantra with a lot of folks is that the episode sucks if every star isn't in it.

  11. Hmm, let's see.
Lots of (very funny) Allison Janney. Lots of Hughley.
    Very little Harriett.
    No Peet.

    Scoreboard!

And every single moment of Harriet was annoying.
