  1. I didn't mean to do that.
And Belichick should have challenged that fumble/no fumble earlier in the game.

Speaking of Brady, if the Patriots had finished 19-0, I planned on starting my column with a scene from the Patriots' postgame party. Through some mutual friends, I had arranged to hang out with Brady's crew for what promised to be a laid-back celebration in somebody's hotel room, probably no more than 15-20 people since Brady's circle is surprisingly and refreshingly small. Because it was a rare chance to catch Brady in an unguarded moment -- and an important moment at that -- I spent most of Friday and Saturday thinking about that first paragraph and all the different ways it could start. I kept seeing Brady sitting in a chair with his right ankle encased in ice, quietly sipping a bottle of champagne with a satisfied smile on his face, and Gisele would be there, and everyone would be recapping 19-0 and remembering the incredible season. I liked the thought of a famous person celebrating a historic night in such a totally normal and relatable way.

Spot on. Because celebrating with one of the world's top supermodels at your side is definitely normal and relatable - Joe Sixpack does it every weekend.

Fanboi Bill is upset because he didn't get to have an audience with the Godfather in a postgame victory celebration. Didn't get to kneel down and kiss his ring - and Fanboi Bill dreamed about the moment all weekend!

Too funny... I quit reading this guy a couple years ago - that is great stuff he's writing.

Does Bill realize that America now hates Boston?

The lovable losers have become pretentious whiners who thought all they had to do was show up for the Super Bowl and accept the trophy.

Seriously, Bill and his dad were not flying out to watch the game, they were flying out to watch the Patriots take their place in NFL history.

Too bad that place is behind the 1970s Steelers, 1980s 49ers and the 1990s Cowboys. It's also behind the Bears.

So will the Bill Simmons face come back again when Moss signs on with another team?

  5. How do the one-shot Bears fit in with that list?
    Gloating can warp the mind.

  6. I realize this has probably been mentioned elsewhere in this thread, but I just wanted to vent, and didn;t feel like wading through 54 pages of the thread. BB walkign off the field with a second left is the most classless, bush-league move I have ever seen, and if BB supporters don't understand why the rest of the league hates the Patriots, just watch this one over. It's every quarterbacks dream to line up in the victory formation, take the snap, drop to a knee and raise the ball in the air to close out a game, while the other team who as chest thumping and jawing throughout the game, watch. Joe Montana deserved that moment, Brett Favre deserved that moment, and oh yea, even Tom Brady deserved that special moment when their teams won super bowls. BB, in his classless, cowerdly way, stripped the best quarterback on the field sunday of his moment, Eli Manning. You could say that he didn;t know there was time left on the clock when he walked across the field to shake Tom Coughlin's hand, but he was confronted by the official who told him there was time on the clock, and the hollier-art-though BB decided that he was going to leave the field anyway. How anyone outside of New England can support this guy without reservation is cmpletely beyond me.

That the Patriots season this year was the greatest single season performance, or that they were the greatest team of all time.

For one single game or one single season, the Walter's Bears probably were the best.

    That's where it came from.

  8. Except the other teams you mentioned were an arc of success over 4-5 seasons and, last night notwithstanding, the Patriots are still in that conversation.

Actually, I didn't think it was that obnoxious, at least not nearly as bad as other fanboy columns he's written. Although I notice he did slip in about 3 references to the Giants "catching breaks" (a Simmons staple), which of course, is bullshit. The Giants dominated the line of scrimmage, Manning outplayed Brady, there were clearly the better team in that game, breaks had nothing to do with it.

True, but they are not in front.

    1970s Steelers
    1980s 49ers
    1990 Cowboys
2000s Patriots (unless the Giants win the next two, but that realistically won't happen)

    That's the group.

Most dominant team for a single season...
No Patriot team is in the discussion.

As a Giants fan, I really enjoyed last night. I enjoyed it to the point that I'm quite tired today.
