Samuel could have intercepted that ball and come down inbounds. It went off the top of his fingertips, so it would have been a difficult catch, but he basically took his eye off the ball and let it slip straight past him.

Say what you will about his early exit, but whenever this occurs again in the future, Belichick and the Detroit Pistons (against the Bulls) will be the poster children for leaving early.

The bigger sin for Hoodie, though, was not kicking the FG. If he had, that game goes to overtime. And maybe the Patriots do finish 19-0. He went to sleep last night and woke up this morning knowing he cost them the chance at perfection.

If the Patriots hadn't marched right down the field and scored a touchdown after that drive I would agree with you.

The Giants defense spent the first 10 minutes of a 60-minute game on the sidelines. Meanwhile, the Pats defense spent all of that time on the field. And the field goal gave the Giants offense the confidence it needed. Had the Giants suffered a three-and-out, the entire game might have been transformed. I bet Coughlin would prefer a 7-3 deficit at the start of the second quarter to trailing 7-0 midway through the first quarter. And don't forget that Manning connected on three third-down passes on that opening drive. What he did to start the game and to end the game provided nice bookends. How me managed to excel at the two times in the game when most young QBs would have wobbly knees is the most impressive part.

    My Lawd !
I'm watching the game again here on the replay.
That first Giants' drive was a thing of beauty.
What with working all day and other to-dos, I haven't been able to post.
This one was for all of Hoodie Nation. :'(
This one was for all the piss-ants who call into the radio stations around Baton Rouge and call Mr. Manning "She-Li" instead of his real name.
That's just some of those piss-poor LSU fans for you. (He beat the Tigers when he was at Ole Miss.)
He beat damn near everyone at least once.
11 losses in three years as a starter at Oxford. That's all.
Lost to TTech with Kingsbury and Welker.
Lost to LSU once or twice.
Even lost once to Mississippi State.
But won lots, lots more and has been to the playoffs EVERY year he's started in New York.
This one was for all the board haters here, who've pounced on the kid time and time again.
Most of y'all didn't watch close enough in college.
This one is for the Phil Rivers Sweepstakes scorekeepers. (NOTE: Eli's better)
My Lawd, what leadership this kid displays.
What a fine night it was on Sunday.
Make a spot for BOTH Mannings in the Hall of Fame.
They are on their way. (But I already figured that)

Blitz, if it's any consolation I'll always think of Eli's greatest moment...tripping over his own center's foot on Ole Miss' final play in the 2003 LSU game ;D

I read this passage five times and it makes no sense.

    Just none.

And I'd agree 110 percent with that. The Giants outplayed New England. No doubt.

Drats, I knew somebody'd bring that up.
At that point they were at near the 50, and mighty desperate, with zero ticks left just about
If Ole Miss Playboy All-America kicker doesn't miss two FGs in that game, the Rebs'd been in Atlanta and a BCS bowl thereafter.
    Shoulda, woulda, coulda ... (sigh)

There is no logical reasoning for the pats going for that Fourth down.

Would have been a 48-yard FG. No wind.

You can't make one from 48 yards off of grass with no wind, you have no business kicking in the NFL.

Boys, Eli just Luke Skywalkered the Death Star and you are talking about some SEC game?

I'm not sure why you find it so baffling. Perhaps you should read it again, slowly.

It's because the SEC is better than the NFL! Why are you hating?
