This is the gist - works better for Tiki than Ewing . He should rename it the Barber theory or The Shockey Theory

A star athlete receives an inordinate amount of media attention and fan interest, and yet his teams never win anything substantial with him (other than maybe some early-round playoff series).

That same athlete leaves his team (either by injury, trade, graduation, free agency or retirement) -- and both the media and fans immediately write off the team for the following season.

Yeah, naming it after Ewing is unacceptable. There should be two categories, professional and collegiate.
The collegiate theory should, naturally, be called the "Manning" Theory, seeing as the Vols won the chipper after Peyton was drafted in '99, and then the pro version can go to Barber...the Tiki theory.
The hip, generation-Y simmons' fanbois don't know who "Ewing" is anyway.

In which one must have his chest sheared in half in order to inspire victory?

No. A team is better without is supposed star player.

yeah I knew that. I was just riffing on the horrible injury Bledsoe suffered to begin the Brady Era.

True, but he is the only one that pops to mind as far as winning titles. Mattingly was just unlucky. Drew seemed to be holding them back.
