If it is his final match at R-G, I'm glad he lost to a top 5 guy and not some fringe guy in the 150. Zverev is probably among the best two or three guys on the ATP that hasn't really had a breakthrough in the majors yet.

Agassi's U.S. Open sendoff into retirement figured to be a prime-time, second-round match against No. 8 seed Marcos Baghdatis, but Agassi somehow one that in five sets (despite all kinds of back problems), then lost his final match in the middle of the afternoon two days later to some German named Becker (Benjamin, not Boris).

Was that the year he also beat James Blake in a great five-set match?

    Agassi-Blake was the previous year.

Just want to acknowledge my favorite name in the tournament, as we won't be hearing from him the rest of the way.

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, a 20-year-old wild card from France ranked 66th, battled hard but lost his first-round match to veteran David Goffin in five sets -- 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4. He will be missed.

I hope the kid turns into something, because I'd love to see that name keep turning up in the big events.

Don't look now, but Naomi Osaka is making No. 1 Swiatek work.

Iga won the first set in a tiebreak, and now Osaka is up two breaks in the second at 3-0. This could get really interesting.

Osaka breaks Iga three times to win the second set 6-1. Going the distance.

Swiatek with a late break to get to 6-5. Now serving for the match.

...and finishes. Iga holds off Osaka 7-6, 1-6, 7-5.

Not the big win she was hoping for, but the strongest indication so far that Naomi might be getting her groove back.

    Tiafoe out in round 2. Shapovalov beat him 6-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.

More surprisingly, Collins is out, too. Dropped a three-setter to No. 125 Olga Danilovic.

Didn’t see this one coming: Auger-Aliassime beats Shelton in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1.

Mary Carillo, talking about the female players who hit the ball the hardest: “Of all the big babes, Aryna Sabalenka is the biggest, babiest I’ve ever seen.”
