    Turrible backhand!

Oh what could have been with corporate synergy.

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Yep fun while it lasted. Some great memories, McEnroe Lendl in 1984(?), Chang-Lendl in 89, Djoker-Nadal in 2021(?). Women’s side I remember great champions Evert, Sanchez-Vicario, Graf, Henin but not great close matches.

I meant Paolini’s wild ride. She was just outgunned. I mean, at least she didn’t get bageled like Iga’s previous two opponents.

Iga is the best out there on clay right now and she made that very clear today this entire tournament. Paolini will still leave with the No. 7 ranking, and she still has the doubles final tomorrow.

The Hingis meltdown against Graf in 1999 was stupendous.

    Forgot that one.

Paolini couldn’t seal the deal in doubles, either. She and Errani lost to Gauff and Siniakova 7-6, 6-3. The difference in power illustrated by average first serve speed: Gauff-Siniakova 103 mph, Paolini-Errani 79 mph.

As Mary Carillo (who has been on fire in this tournament) pointed out yesterday, quoting Damon Runyon, “The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong — but that’s the way to bet.”

Zverev looking very strong. His serve has been fantastic — 77 percent of first serves in with a 130 mph average speed. And now he’s serving for a two sets to one lead.

Alcaraz is pressing, trying to go big on everything, and he is missing a lot.

Now down a set, Alcaraz seems to have gotten his mojo back — up a break on the fourth.

And suddenly Zverev’s serve deserts him. Two double faults in one game and Carlito gets a second break to go up 4-0.
