I briefly considered him for my pool entry. Now I'm glad I didn't.

The USGA asked for Berman? God, that's weird. Maybe his best moment today was when Olazabal was lining up a putt and Berman says: "This, for birdie. His only bird of the day." Not more than 10 seconds later, one of the other guys in the booth says "This, for par. He missed the green to the left." Fucking moron! Maybe if he'd shitcan the stupid nicknames he could actually follow the tournament. I promise that's my last rant. He ain't worth it.

Tiger is discovering today that no matter how great a player you are, you can't take more than two months off from competitiion and expect to be sharp. Golf always wins in the end.

So much for Tiger's storybook ending.

David Howell at -2. If anyone has him in the pool, raise your hand.

Which question do you think was Loopy's:

    1) Q. Do you feel like you're at a Yankees game, the fans were yelling for you so much?

PHIL MICKELSON: I love it up here. I think everybody loves coming to the New York area. That's why we play so many majors up here, so many great courses, and we get such great support from the community that we tend to hold a lot of tournaments here, and it's terrific.

    2) Q. This course has been called the -- there's been an analogy made to Yankee Stadium, that this is to golf what Yankee Stadium is to baseball.

PHIL MICKELSON: It's a fair assessment because Winged Foot has so much history with so many great major championships and great stories told. I remember talking to Billy Casper about the '59 U.S. Open he won here when we were at The Masters this year and some of the shots he hit and some of the putts and how tough the greens were. There's been so much over the years that has occurred here that it does have that feel of Yankee Stadium.

    3) Q. Nice job.
    PHIL MICKELSON: Thank you.

I know all about how the course is set up to very difficult and make par a good score, but watching this U.S. Open isn't much fun.

I've thought about this while watching, and my hat's off to everybody who picked the right guys in the pool. And this probably qualifies as sour grapes, considering my current standing. ;D

But man, watch how these holes are being played out, and I just don't think you could make anything more than a real educated guess at who was going to make things work here. It's just so impossible at some points, it's almost a matter of luck.

Agreed. I'm not sure many guys had Steve Stricker in their list. Though we probably should have because I think he usually plays well in Opens.

Berman is having a field day with that Goddam right bunker on 10 today. "Julius Boros once said you could build a national park in there......and Monty will be visiting our national park...Nick Price will be visiting the bunker that Boros once said...." WE GET IT, ASSHOLE!

He's one of your drunk uncles as a sportscaster.
