OK. I've read none of this thread, but I do have a question that I'm hoping someone can answer....

I'm looking for an old Nintendo NES system. Any idea where I can get one for around $50 bucks or so? Would video game stores (GameStop, etc.) have these things for sale anymore? Or will I have to rely on eBay and Craiglist?

eBay would be your best bet.

Unless you want to the vintage look, go with a top-loading one. There are newer machines that will play the old cartridges. You won't have to worry about blowing into them to get them to work.

  3. eBay and Craigslist are probably fine. But if you strike out there, Amazon sells them, too. Their best bet (fulfilled by Amazon, 97 percent positive over 18k ratings) looks like $60 with free shipping.

That's hard to beat if you can wait a few days to get it.

There's also the Virtual Console option. Buy a Wii and download old NES games for $5 apiece. They have SNES, Genesis, N64, TurboGrafx-16 and Commodore 64 games available, too. The NES is the largest library of those, close to 100 games.
It'll cost you a bit more, but it might be worth it if you don't want to hunt high and low for a working system and old games.

Looks like that's my best option. An added bonus is that it comes with Super Mario Brothers.

    Thanks.

I've got an NES that runs pretty smooth. Tho, I'm not willing to sell it, ha.

I have two that work great, but they aren't going anywhere either. ;D

And it's a front-loading NES as well. I love the effort it takes to get a game to run after the blowing and constant pushing up and down. Tho, it's in NY along with my SNES and n64.

I went with the FC Twin. It's both a NES and SNES system rolled in one. Wife loves it cause she's addicted to old games.

You know, I thought about buying a "new" NES, but at this point I barely have any games left :( I have Dragon Warrior 1 thru 4, Bases Loaded, Ghostbusters (ick) and Tetris. All are easier to play on my computer (if roms were legal, of course). My SNES still gets a healthy workout though. And I own an Atari Jaguar, which has a bunch of crappy games, but which gives me Geek Points for bragging about it.

Indeed on the Jaguar front. That was going to be the beast until the Playstation came along.

I noticed the interleague issue MLB 08 and also remember being unable to change the season schedule from year to year. Whether it was 2008 or 2012, my year always started in Philadelphia ... lame.

I haven't gotten through a whole season in '09, so I'm not sure what -- if anything -- has changed.
