So I recently bought a PS3. I'm looking for a solid first-person shooter. Any suggestions?

Across any console, I think the best FPS right now is Modern Warfare 2.

Not sure how the multiplayer is on the PSN though. It's pretty outstanding on Xbox Live.

Call of Duty. Modern Warfare 2 is the newest. But all of them are great.

Other than the obvious MW2, I would suggest Resistance both 1 and 2. Both are really cool stories and are well-paced. The online for both are also pretty darn awesome.
I like shooters about 50 percent of the time, and I liked both of these a lot.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I have played MW2 once and it was pretty good. Are there any FPS where you are the ONLY person going against people like SOCOM or anything? I heard pretty good stuff about the new Metal Gear Solid.

Resistance is like that sometimes, where it's you against the world. I feel like a moron but I never played Metal Gear Solid. There was something about the storyline (which I never got into by the way) and the load times that kept me away.
It's weird, but I sometimes put Fallout 3 into a FPS. However, it is NOT a traditional FPS, it's an RPG with an FPS element that is very slow from encounter to encounter.
I would also suggest Borderlands and The Orange Box. The Orange Box is quite possibly one of the best collections of games ever. However, you will likely end up like me hooked on the franchise then have to sit impatiently while Valve drags their feet on ending the story.

You might want to take a look at Rainbow Six Vegas (1+2).

I finally have Madden 10 for..... PS3. My friend and I here at work are thinking about starting an online franchise, but we don't know 30 other people to play with. DO you need 32? Or can you do it with less?

Sweet, then I think I will just need to grab some others then and get this thing going.

Broke down and got Dragon Age: Origins. Seems pretty sweet, but for the usual reasons (work/girlfriend) I haven't been able to put too many hours into it yet. Two pretty much surface-level comments, since I haven't been able to play too much of it yet (maybe you'll get a more in-depth take later): 1) I miss the completely open world of Oblivion and Fallout 3. Getting from one place to another in DA:O is like fast traveling in the Bethesda games. Wish I could walk from one place to another. 2) Wish there were more races or classes or both. All you have to choose from is Human, Elf, Dwarf and Warrior, Rogue, Mage. Maybe I'm just being selfish.

I picked up Fallout 3 a couple weeks ago and while I'm not too far into it, I am enjoying it head and shoulders above Dragon Age. I like the RPG aspects of it, but between FPS aspects and the story, I'm much more interested.
