Wow - Big time blow for EA, but the NCAA must be scared shitless about the Ed O'Bannon lawsuit or something. I'm not sure what EA can do to replace the game in its lineup, since without the NCAA license I imagine they can't use the schools with just all generic players.

I may be reading more into the statement than is actually there, but it makes it sound like they're getting out of gaming entirely.

NCAA Football is the only game they license is it not?

Has there been a college hoops game recently?

My thinking is the series will continue as the NCAA stressed individual schools (and presumably conferences) license their trademarks to EA. It just won't have the NCAA logos or names anywhere on it.

I figure it might be like the FIFA game where EA gets the license from the clubs and leagues, but doesn't bother getting the Champions League license and calls that competition the Cup Winners Cup and the FA Cup is called the League Cup. So EA could get all the schools and conferences and have them play for the USA Champion Trophy in college football.

Last I remember was an Xbox Live title a few years ago that was tournament only. No full games since 2K stopped doing their game.

hm, That's one workaround, although I think there is still the hurdle if Ed O'Bannon and that collective win their lawsuit. Basically, that the schools are profiting off the popularity of the student athletes and not really giving them a cut. I imagine EA might be able to get around that by giving a cut to some sort of fund established by those athletes though.

And that game now goes for $30 or more on eBay, IIRC, just because it's kind of rare.

So Ed O'Bannon killed NCAA Football?

    Fucker.

My thoughts that something like this might happen was one of the reasons I figured it was a good time to invest in a new NCAA.

I remember the EA Sports basketball games (March Madness and NBA Live) being very inferior to NBA 2K and NCAA 2K.

The reviews for it aren't great, so I didn't pull the trigger and buy it. That was my general recollection as well though. I have PS3 NCAA Basketball 09 - the year before the final one - and I prefer my PS2 version of 2k6.

I had College Hoops 2K7 or 8, not sure which, and remember it being a very cool game.
