I rented it. It's about what you'd expect.

I got GTA yesterday. I've completed three quick tutorial-type missions that took about 15 minutes. I've spent about three hours driving around the city and county. I died from one punch from some mobster type guy who was standing on a street corner. I died when I tried to jump over a moving freight train on an ATV. And I was killed by a mountain lion while exploring a mountain range on foot.

Killed by a mountain lion? Now I know I have to get this game.

Was sold on GTA V the second the dog that was helping out with a mission ran off to mount another dog. And you seriously have to pull the fucker off the other dog to finish the mission. Now that's attention to detail.

I haven't had a more powerful system since the PS2 or Wii and haven't devoted a lot of time to video games since I had kids (post GTA III days) other than getting through the Mario galaxies. But man, this game has me thinking about finally taking the plunge again. That and maybe trying out Madden or FIFA for the first time in about a decade. Of course I still don't know if I could find the time to focus on any of them to justify the cost, but I'm thinking hard about it.

If you're going to do it, you might as well wait a couple months and get the new consoles (PS4 or Xbox One). With the start of the newer generation, this current gen will eventually fade out. It may take a couple years, but it will fade.

And by then, we'll be talking about newer consoles (again).

Like my PS2, I will keep my PS3 for as long as I can.

I've thought about it, but if I haven't really played the more hard core games in more than eight years and all I really want at this point is GTA V and a couple sports games, is it worth it to spend twice as much on one of the new systems?

Gimme GTA V, NCAA 14 and NBA 2K14 and I'm set.

A 500 GB PS3 with GTA 5 will run you $269 through GameStop.
