Running video games (and consoles) thread

  1. I'd say just buy the system with a game or two. Some of the bundles don't have good games. I'd say get the system and buy Gears of War and a sports game, say NBA 2K7?

Are there any good baseball games out for it? I like those.

  3. The quality and quantity of baseball games right now are just awful. With 2K snatching the MLB license, it's put out crap baseball games. They certainly don't give it the effort they give their basketball games. MVP was awesome and it still is with the college teams. I actually like the college games better because the seasons are shorter and you can play more of them. But here is the problem - the new MVP game is only coming out for the regular Xbox and PS2 while the next gen systems get left out of the cold. Very disappointing. I will definitely not buy the new 2K baseball game when it comes out in March. That franchise I think right now is beyond repair, but who knows. I know 2K had openings on their job board looking for designers for the game. Maybe they found someone good.

I've heard the 2K series underwent a massive makeover, mostly because Major League Baseball was really unhappy with last year's product. I didn't buy last year's, but I'm tempted to buy the new game for the PS2.

I think it was about two years ago, the 2K version stats engine was really screwed up. They'd give wins or saves to pitchers that didn't play in the game, which really hurt the simulation value.

  6. Now that is pretty bad. We all know these sports games aren't perfect when it comes to truly capturing the real thing, but there is no excuse for a glitch like that.

The great thing about guitar hero is the interaction with the game you're playing. It's more than just holding a controller. Which I think says something about what Hoops said earlier about the Wii available at a higher markup than the PS3. Sure, Nintendo doesn't put out the great games that 360 and PS do, but the idea of having the swing the controller to hit a ball in a baseball game, etc., appeals to a greater population. Especially to someone like me (MWM, 29) who doesn't like the multiple button combinations you have to press to play some of these games. Since I was raised on a two-button Nintendo, the idea of pressing up-L2-triangle to run to second (I don't know if that's the right button combination, so please, no nit-picking) is something of a problem for me. Gamers like my brother (who is 6 years younger) can handle that stuff, since they had a multi-button platform to play with.

We have karaoke games, along with some DDR stuff at the house. They are great to break out at parties and such, and they're always a big hit to see people make fools of themselves, especially when there's alcohol involved. You can't do that with Halo2. Those games are geared to people that play for hours a week versus hours a year.

Got a copy of College Hoops 2K7 a week ago or so. Question to the 2K developers: Could you PLEASE make a basketball game where you hit more than 30 percent of your layups? And there's way too many steals. Otherwise, not bad for 20 bones.

Believe me. It's much better than what EA could've made.

  12. Best baseball game for me was Baseball Stars for NES. Awesome.

The only other baseball game that made the grade for me was High Heat for Xbox ... like three years ago. Too bad that series died. I thought it was great.

I play my 360 often. Great machine.
