Madden is fun if you do a fantasy draft and go 10-15 seasons deep while playing against friends who are in the same league. Gotta love beefing up your defense by signing Colvin and moving him to DE, same with the likes of Suggs and Wimbley--or moving Mayo to OLB and having him be a 97 after one year.

Man, I remember having good times doing that in college .... untill my friends all stopped playing me b/c I'd beat them too badly. Now, it's just the computer for me. And Mayo, who is playing OLB for me in my Miami franchise, definitely didn't get up to 97 after one year. How the hell'd you get him that good?

With Mayo he was already on a team and progressed to a 90 MLB on his own through whatever team it was. I already had Demeco Ryans and Al Wilson and offered Wilson along with a 3rd and 6th round pick. Moved him then to ROLB and was expecting him to be a 94 but came to a 97. All of my DE's are former OLB's (Colvin, Gholston) along with Okoye as one of my DT's and Lawson as my LOLB; makes for a quick front seven.
I train the hell out of my players.

    I've been playing 09 a lot lately. Here's some minor bitches ...

    • It seems to rain A LOT. Day games, night games, it doesn't matter.
    • The discipline points system - I don't like it. It has nothing to do with me being on 3 Years Probation. I actually like Probation - no TV games for 2 years, so I don't have to listen to Corso et al. AND I've lost 10 scholarships, but I recruit less scrubs that way. No biggie.
    • I wish EA would have a larger pool of last names. I swear, I have 2 Loves, 3 Daniels (all on defense), and 2 T. Wilsons at QB. Wacka-freakin-doodle.

I should train more, but I'm not good at it. I can do well at the QB drill, the RB drill (with a fast RB), the LB drill, oh, and the offensive lineman drill is easy, but I kinda suck at the rest. The weight lifting one and running the 40 I've never come even close to getting a hang of.

FIFA 09 is awesome. I give it 9.5 (but I'm a soccer wonk, so that probably translates to a 7.5 to non-soccernistas.)

Discipline points system? I saw nothing of this on the PS3 version. Where did you see this?

  10. Last one I bought is 07. Any insights, the reviews I've read aren't that helpful other than to say '09's animation is better, which doesn't really say much I guess.

It's how you deal with violations like so and so didn't go to class, we need to punish him. If you suspend him, that uses discipline points.

Yeah, the whole concept of discipline points is retarded. If you're a real college football coach, and one of your players does something to warrant discipline, you don't say 'Oh, well we've only got 12 points left, so we can only suspend him for a quarter or we run out of points.' You just do whatever is necessary. If you have to suspend 10 guys, you do it.

I've not had the problem with too many rainy games. Do you play as a Washington state or Florida team? That may have something to do with it.

The game has grown on me. The offense-defense balance has gotten better, though I'd still say it's far too slanted in favor of defense. I don't think I've ever allowed a TD drive of more than about four plays -- every TD the computer scores on me is a big-play. And I still always lead the nation in dropped passes (I'll have individual guys drop more passes than entire other teams, and this is a team that only throws about 15 passes a game), turnovers forced and committed and sacks and sacks allowed.
