McEnroe was great afterward, calling it the greatest match he's ever seen and thanking both players for the show they put on and what he hopes it will do for tennis.

I know it was an NBC telecast, but might it end up on ESPN Classic in the next couple days?

    Awesome finish (thanks nbcsports.com).

Brings me back to the early 80's the way the two played. Great admiration and respect the two had for each other.

Rafa is such a nice humble guy, it was exciting to see him win and prove he's not just a one note (clay) player. To win in Roland Garros then Wimbledon, wow. Loved how he also shared that Wimbledon has always been his favorite, even though he had 4 French Opens.

Roger was all class, every single moment.

Johnny Mac did a pretty nice Bud Collins imitation with them after the match too.

Dear NBC play-by-play dude whose name escapes me at this moment,

It was the Euro 2008 soccer championship that Spain won. Not the Euro 208, as you repeatedly said.

    Sincerely,

One of the SJ futbol fanboy loosers

I watched more tennis today than I have in at least 10 years, total. Bud Collins was missed, but I think the match was similar to one of those boxing matches where someone's greatness isn't appreciated until they lose. Hell of a match, with only five breaks on 55 or so points, it made me realize why tennis is such a tough sport to watch all the way through. I can look at a partial score at a glance and figure out who is going to win. And yet, even a great match like the final you had roughly 15 minutes of a four hour match where the title was decided.

And he did a fantastic job today ... except for that Euro thing. A very minor quibble, admittedly.

This match is worth watching any time, any day. It needs to be on ESPN Classic tonight. Not tomorrow, not after breakfast, but right now.
Maybe the best sports championship event I've ever watched. Unbe-frickin-lievable.
