"''If I'm not playing a great, great match, these girls, when they play me, they play as if they're on the ATP Tour, and then they play other girls completely different,'' Williams said, rolling her eyes. ''It's never easy being in my shoes.''

Not asked in the media room, I'm sure:

"Hey Serena, did your first-round opponent (Anna Tatisvili), whom you destroyed 6-1, 6-2, play as if she was on the ATP Tour against you? And did your second-round opponent (Chanelle Scheepers), whom you destroyed 6-1, 6-1, play as if she was on the ATP Tour against you?"

what a stupid athlete, worst sportsmanship of any pro- athlete active.

Does Sirena think that no one gets up for Peyton, LeBron, Tiger, Brady. Miguel Cabrera is pitched to with the same intensity as Brandon Laird?

Maybe the WTA Tour doesn't look as weak to Serena as to some others.

Seriously, who's the favorite entering the second week? Serena's gone, Li Na (No. 2 seed) is gone, Azarenka is gone. I guess you've got Maria Sharapova, a former champion in Kvitova and the French Open runnerup in Simona Halep. But, geez, talk about wide open.

I used to root for Serena but she's just so full of herself. You lost, so look in the mirror Serena, just accept she was better today.

I'm glad Clijsters took her out at the US Open.

Federer is now past his prime, so he can cash in on other endeavors. If he was 24-27 and doing it then it would be the same as Sharapova or Williams. At this point, Nadal and Djokovic are better than Federer, like when an old Sampras was not better than a young Federer. (the age was farther apart between them though). Federer can still beat Nadal and Djokovic but beating both in the same tourney is not likely.

Not only that, but only a percentage of Serena's opponents get extra keyed-up to play her. Most of them are so intimidated they piss in their pants and miss easy shots.

Maria is the clear favorite -- playing well, confident, coming off a major title.

What's the bookies number of Sabine Lisicki? She's good enough, and serves well enough, to win four more in a row.

I would love, love, love to see Federer win again. Favorite men's player of all time. He's certainly the underdog now and might have to face Nadal in the semifinals. But, on grass, it's not impossible if he serves well.

I like Lisicki on grass. I agree she has the chops to win the whole thing. I like Bouchard, too. I just think it's going to be awfully hard to stop Sharapova right now. She's really on a roll -- she's lost a total of seven games in her three matches so far and has not lost a set. Four of her six sets have been 6-1 or 6-0.

Sharapova has always had the maddening tendency to be going along very well and suddenly lay an egg against someone ranked much lower. No matches are ever a given for her. Of course, I suppose one could say the same of Serena Williams in the last couple of years.

Bouchard is going to be a nice player Whether she's ready to win the whole thing just yet.... I don't know.

She hits a flatter ball than most players. So if she's off, she starts spraying balls and can lose to anyone --- sometimes badly.
