I've gotta see the numbers sometime on 2-4 and 3-6 limit games in a casino with the standard rake. It just can't be beatable over long sessions. Gotta catch cards and/or bad players for 2-3 hours, then head for the cashier. Am I wrong?

No, but bad players in limit might actually hurt you in the short term because they aren't going to lay a hand down that they should and they are going to lay some hideous beats on you.

In the long term, that might not be the case, but in any given limit session if you have a little bad luck you can lose your whole stack .... and quickly.

But at those levels you get a lot of people who are more willing to throw money into pots even if they're dead. You also have to recognize when you're taken a bad beat, and save your bets for when your hands hold up. No crying calls.

I play a little to supplement my income, but the way to do it is to charm the table and never mention the fact that you're working. The if people like you, they're less likely to want to play pots against you. Don't tap the fishbowl.

At the place I frequent, max rake is $5 a pot, $1 for each $10 in the pot. And that's for all games, limit and NL.

I agree with one thing -- in the last year I've become a much better player because I've learned to take the emotions out of losing via bad beats. I find myself tilting much less and playing much more solid poker and I also find that people aren't making nearly as many bad calls against me because they aren't getting their desired effect -- which is me blowing up and getting all pissed off.

Playing with a level head regardless of each individual hand outcomes -- good or bad -- has really changed the way I play.

On a different note -- did anyone notice that the new WSOP's on ESPN began tonight? The earlier one was the mixed hold em event -- mostly boring -- won by the youngest kid ever to win a bracelet. The one on now is the one where Alex Jacob begins the final table with a huge stack but finishes third.

That's odd. Last year they promo'd the hell out of it, and started the new coverage with satellite events in random places.

I agree -- I thought it was strange that I didn't even know it was coming on because usually they'd put so much emphasis into promo's that you couldn't help but know it.

Just to let someone know, Greg Raymer busted first day. At least Hachem made it to the second day. However, Tobey Maguire (Spider-man) is still in at around I think $160,000.

As for what I did today, amateur poker league. I finished third first tournament and second in the next one. That makes it (for the last five tourneys I've been in) second, 12th, fifth, third and second. Hopefully my luck holds out for the venue championship. If I get second or first in that they send me to regionals, or state, not sure ... for free, if I'm not mistaken.

Hand of the night for me. Holding Ac-4c. I call the big blind. Get three or four callers. Flop comes Kc-Jc-Qc giving me the nut flush and a royal flush draw. Guy across from me goes all in for $4,100. I'm trying not to lose my composure as it folds around to me. I immediately call and turn over the nuts. I screamed at him, SHOW ME A FULL HOUSE, C'MON! (btw, we're all friends at the table, no hard feelings) and he doesn't improve. I rake it in and go on to finish second in that tourney. Man, I love me some poker!

Really? I would be annoyed at my best friend if he gave a speech while turning over the nuts.

He's not my best friend. I've never bought him a beer. He's never bought me a beer. Nonetheless, it's a free tourney, no money involved and it's a good time for everybody. Had it been a good friend of mine I never would've been like that, but this particular fellow had busted me out of a tournament before and he did the same kind of shit to me so he had it coming :D

Anyway, I love me some poker!

A wild guess is that he had QJ.

I think he had K-3 and was trying to avoid any draw to a flush or straight. I don't recall him showing what he had, at that point I was too amped up :D
