Well, if you get technical, no it wasn't a race. It always feels like a race to me when I put QQ or KK up against A-anything, since it seems like I lose 70 percent of the time.

I think we all feel like we lose those hands 70% of the time. We always remember when we're outdrawn. We rarely remember outdrawing someone.

Gus Hansen and Huckleberry Seed are still in the top 5 in chips. God, it would be great to see a pro win the thing.

I predicted a pro winning it this year. Also Tobey Maguire is still in it and they're really close to the bubble. 621 pay out and I think they're at 627 with hand-for-hand action going on now.

Maguire is the celebrity the pros always say could make a living at the tables. I'm not shocked he's still around at this point.

That's what Phil Gordon has said about him. I hope he continues to do well.

You go, Varkonyi. Dorkiest Main Event champ ever. Makes Greg Raymer look like Miles Davis. Would love to see him get back to a final table. Hell, would love to see any pro win the damn thing as opposed to another Jamie Gold.

The funny thing about the Varkonyi/Julian Gardner final table that year is that if you were to watch it right now on ESPN, you'd guess it was taped anywhere between about 1985-1991 based on the poor production value of the show and the clothes the people were wearing.

Then you realize it was 2002, the year before Moneymaker. Hilarious.

    Haha. Good line.

I'd live to see Scotty Nguyen win it bay-bay. Love that guy.

I have thought the same thing. It's actually quite striking the differences between the Varkonyi, Moneymaker and then even the Raymer year. Then you go into Binion's without the soundstage set up and you see why. If you wear the right clothes, it can be 1985. Or 1979. Or '73.
