Growing up (outside of Nixon), Republicans were of the "cloth-coat" Gerald Ford variety, square, preaching "moderation," low taxes, just kind of being the governmental "buzzkill." I think William F. Buckley's "Firing Line" and the McLaughlin Group on PBS were the main bullhorns for Conservatism. Then Limbaugh happened and all civility went out the window. You have 100 people on Capitol Hill right now who may as well be mini-Limbaughs. More eager to perform a publicity stunt than get a bill passed that would help their constituents. (See Gaetz, Matt who was mocking COVID-19 by wearing a gas mask this time a year ago on the House Floor and then once the threat was confirmed, suddenly the right refused to wear masks). Such a weird ideology these days.

Someone on Twitter said it best:

Rush Limbaugh woke up for years and every day tried to make the world a worse place with lies in the service of vicious sexism and racism disguised as humor and intellectualism. It is good that the evil he perpetrated has stopped, even though it would have been better for him to stop of his own volition instead.

Downey and George seemed to be more parodies of conservatism than anything - though they were apparently serious, but knew how to make watchable TV.
Hard not to see the future Trumpers in the audience. Never realized Downey was once a guest on the George show (5:00 mark).

Could you write an accurate, truthful obit of Limbaugh and not talk about the kind of vitriol and hateful rhetoric he doled out for 3 hours a day? He wasn't a source of "hope" or "optimism" for the GOP. He never talked about why conservatism was the way of the future. Nope - just talked about those to the left of him sucked, deserved mockery and scorn. BTW - he wasn't a "fan" of Trump until it was clear he was going to win the nomination. Same goes for Levin and most of RW radio.

Fox spent more time on his death than it did on Capitol insurrection on 1/6 and had nothing bad to say about either.

"Look: Ultimately whatever problem I'm talking about today - no matter what it is - is actually the fault of Democrats and specifically Liberals. And our only choice is to vote for Republicans again."
