Interesting that Larry King also recently died because think of the type of topical late night show he did in the 80s. “For the first hour, Rob Reiner.....Rob is promoting his new show on CBS, “Sam and the Ballbag.” Rob Reiner in the first hour second, Dr. Edwin Bloshistein, author of the new book ‘Is Your Typewriter Making You Fat?” Dr Bloshistein in hour two and then open phone America in the third hour.”

can that kind of show exist today? No, I’ll prove to you it can’t: King’s successor, Jim Bohannon, has turned the show into a three hour right wing bitchfest. Probably doesn’t help that cumulus writes the checks.

Back in the early days, I heard they syndicated rush for free and gave you a commercial block or two for local ads. Imagine the the folks owning stations in RealAmerica ate it up.

and fwiw - the guy who turned me on to King (childhood buddy) is one of the top emergency surgeons in the Mid-Atlantic. Perhaps the very best. (crossthread)

Please do not associate a decent human being like Paul Harvey with a borderline hate monger.

As Rush would say if he didn’t prematurely die in hilariously agonizing pain, Fuck your feelings.

the best thing you could do to honor rush is be brutally honest with your opinions, as he did for 30 years. Don’t like homosexuals? Root for their deaths. Don’t like female sexuality, call them sluts and whores.

don’t like rush being made fun of? Turn off the fuxking computer

The modern GOP — “a show of respect and bipartisanship” to honor Rush.

Paul Harvey was close friends with and defended J Edgar Hoover and Joe McCarthy.

John Batchelor does a topical show. I used to listen religiously every Tuesday on my way home from work when he had Stephen Cohen on. Then my right-wing station replaced his show with Mark Levin, and Cohen died a few months later. Sigh.

Look at some of these varied topics.

    Everybody is awful.

    except Jimmy Carter

I've listened to Batchelor at times and he seems pretty good, but he gives a little too much vocal time to the birther-types for my taste.
