Justin Leonard is kicking ass. He and Mahan are a great pairing.

Now, elsewhere, time for Kim to step up and hit a fricken good shot.

OOOH, I can't wait to read twogloves' column about what he saw on TV.
I hope all 15 of your readers enjoy it.

There's a bit less assholish way of making your point than dissing prep writers.

Not dissing prep writers at all. I'm just sure Grandpa enjoys bullying the people he works with and the prep writers tend to be the younger members of the staff who are less likely to tell him to fuck off. C'mon, the guy knows it all. He even knows how many readers I have.

As far as I see it, nowadays for a newspaper columnist to have 15 readers is an impressive feat.

The most annoying intrusion on the broadcast. Rick Reilly OR Tim Rosaforte? Discuss.

    rick reilly.
i've at least seen rosaforte doing what passes for work.
can't say the same about reilly, although I've been following some of the matches on the course so maybe he is working his sources.

Reilly. At least Rosaforte brings some actual info to the table.

I really have no idea how much impact a captain has once the matches begin other than trying to psyche out the fragile golfers on the other team and take way too much credit or blame after the matches are decided.

Weekley and Holmes beat Westwood and Hansen to make it 8-5 US.

If you guess right on how the other captain is going to put together his singles lineup, it can be a big advantage. Crewnshaw front-loaded his line-up in 1999 (I suppose in some ways he had no choice) putting all his best players first. When they went out and started kicking the shit out of Europe, it was a huge swing in momentum, and the Euros on the back end started choking.

There is also a lot of strategy in deciding what to do in the afternoons. Who's hot? Who isn't playing well together? Who can handle getting their ass sat down and still give you something tomorrow?

Ultimately the players have to hit the shots. But I think it's become the contrarian view to say "Oh the captain doesn't do anything."
