    Fixed.

Have you ever seen someone get pulled over for DWB? I have.

I've seen it happen to a friend of mine who has two master's degrees and served 30 years in the military and never sniffed trouble before in his life.

    Did he get arrested?

No. But he was pulled over, detained and questioned for no other reason than being black and driving an Infiniti.

It's not that far a leap from there to being arrested through no fault of one's own.

I'm not being pissy here, but how is it that you know this?

So, not arrested. Was he detained for some period lasting longer than the average traffic stop?

The degree to which he was inconvenienced is secondary to the fact that the only "probable cause" the cops had was that he's black. He was doing absolutely nothing else wrong.

My honkey ass could've done what he did a billion times over, and not been pulled over once.

    So they didn't shoot him?

I'm just trying to understand what happened.

You implied he was arrested. Then said he was detained.

Turns out, he wasn't arrested, and it sounds like he was detained for as long as an average traffic stop.

You haven't told us what the cops said was their reason for pulling him over, and unless he filed a compliant, I'm guessing it wasn't investigated.

You might be entirely right, but you haven't given us enough evidence to prove your claim.

Yeah, but no one is gonna tear down UT. Kind of like poor old Cleveland State, hahaha.

I don't need to "prove" anything. I brought it up to refute the idea that it's easy to go through life without ever being arrested, or by extension, getting in any trouble with law enforcement.

If someone can get pulled over solely for being black, they can get arrested solely for being black. Let's not pretend it's something I just made up a few minutes ago.

For the record, he was pulled over for failure to signal. Except that he did signal. When this was pointed out, the cop said, "well, you didn't signal soon enough." He produced his license and registration and insurance, and then was told to get out of the car. He was then asked where he bought the car and how long ago. And how long he has lived in this area. And where he was going. And does he have anything he shouldn't have. One thing he wasn't asked about, curiously enough, was anything having to do with his turn signal.

I'm sure it was all just a massive coincidence, though.

    But did they lynch him?

Of course not, you silly goose. This tale would be so much richer, with a fine undertone, if they had.
