There are two major regional sports channels in the LA/OC area: Prime Ticket and Fox Sports West, that divvy up the pro teams plus the Bruins and USC, so the Lakers' new channel will make it three, and will be seeking clearances on non-TimeWarner systems as well as the dish providers. (San Diego has its own channel, 4SD, which is Padres/Aztecs/local preps oriented, and not part of the Fox family).

There will also be a vacuum to fill in over-the-air TV, since the Lakers will be exclusive on their own channel except for national network games.

Anschutz CEO Tim Leiweke told Sports Business Journal he tried to get the Maloofs to go to KC, but they were not interested.

They clearly care more about TV dollars than they do about putting fans in the seats.

Mizzou, we both know KC won't draw 15,000 for an NBA team unless that team is the 86 Celtics. Just not enough people in the market with money.

Here's another mystery: Maloofs are getting $75M in incentives from Anaheim to move there and are taking in the shorts on the Palms, yet, as per AP, they're building a massive skate park in South Africa for the Maloof Money Cup championships this fall?

True, but they'll be lucky to draw half that in the OC.

Developers get way too much credit. If you go through the fine print, you find out they usually risk very little of their own capital in the venture. Its not like Jerry Jones himself has all of his fortune wrapped into his stadium, otherwise he'd have no other assets. You have to add up all of the capital contributions from the limited partners/shareholders and the government guarantees to get the clearer picture.

It's TV money uber alles, and that the upside to Orange County is greater than the upside to Kansas City will ever be. Look at the attendance in Milwaukee, Indianapolis, of course Sacramento, and even Philly with crappy or mediocre teams. That's Kansas City's default for a live crowd. Except that the Kings wouldn't get any more TV money than they get in Sacramento, but a hell of a lot more in Anaheim.

If the Maloofs REALLY wanted to make an impact, they'd move the Kings to Vegas. LA doesn't need ANOTHER team!

I think four years ago they would have moved to Vegas but the current Nevada economic situation rules that out.

And it may take that long to get every casino in town to stop taking action on the NBA. Tim Donaghy weeps, and knows not why.

This reads like a comment on a newspaper website with all caps and an exclamation point.
