They still need the votes to be able to move and since the Lakers and Clippers would stand to lose a shotload of TV money if the Kings move to that market, I'm guessing they could rally up quite a bit of support to block the move. Also, Stern has said he doesn't want another team there.

Is that enough to prevent them from doing it? Maybe, maybe not...

If the Maloofs really want to move, they'd be better off going somewhere else, maybe Seattle or Louisville or somewhere else...

I think the only reason they're holding on to the team is because they think some city is going to pay them to move. Then, after they pocket that, they'll probably sell the team.

I know we've been over this ground on dozens of threads...but I really can't think of a team in any sport more suited to play in Las Vegas than Maloof's Kings.

It would be very interesting to see if a NBA team could draw regularly in Vegas. That's pushing aside Stern allowing a situation where you couldn't bet on the NBA in Nevada and I think that's the biggest reason why it will never happen.

Las Vegas has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country right now.

And to repeat a line I used on another thread, get 10 miles away from the Strip and there's nothing but sagebrush and spent Acme products. After Henderson and Boulder City, the next "big" towns are, what, Laughlin? Kingman? Pahrump? Lake Havasu City?

I don't see an arena getting built in the present Nevada economy.

Shit, might as well call Des Moines and Omaha while they're at it.

Full story from Virginia Pilot. Lots of ducking and weaving, but the deal moving the Chiefs to Florida is still on:
