There are rumors about Norfolk light rail expanding to the beach...would make more sense with a draw like an NBA team.

My friend's brother is a VB cabbie who picked up one of the Maloofs a couple of weeks ago. (No word on if he saw him pass out at 31 Flavors.)

And it would be an absolute boon for the city. Getting entertainment money into the city in non-summer months would be huge.

This sucks, but I'd rather see them go to Virginia Beach than to Orange County.

And the state capital, situated between the Bay Area and Tahoe and a host of other attractions, can again live up to its billing "Sacramento: Two Hours From Anything Fun."

I'll be interested to see what they name the team, or do y'all think they'll actually resurrect the Virignia Squires name?

This is not a good move on several fronts.

They could stick with the Kings and do a King Neptune theme.

There will be a lot of hand-wringing about this, but really the NBA doesn't have a great need to be in Sacramento. It is a relatively small market and one that can be served fairly well by Golden State, which is a 90-minute drive away. (The TV DMA rankings have Sacramento 20th, but that includes the larger area of Stockton/Tracy, a godforsaken stretch of meth land that is now Foreclosure USA.)

It's a mid-major city. It was fine that they had an NBA team, but it doesn't really matter that they don't.

As a metro area, Hampton Roads is bigger than Milwaukee, Oklahoma City, Salt Lake City, New Orleans and Memphis, is as almost as large as Indianapolis and Charlotte. So, in theory, it should have a population base that can support a team, which will be the only major-league game in town. Then again, Sacramento was the same way, except bigger. And like Sacramento, Hampton Roads is heavily reliant on government income, and light on big-ticket private companies that will buy up suites.

So I guess the Maloofs have gotten to the point where they say OK to ANYBODY who will pay them to take their team.

Geez, that's a franchise that has been around.

    Rochester
    Cincinnati
    Kansas City-Omaha
    Sacramento
    Virginia Beach

That's six home cities. Wonder what the record is?

The semipro football team from the 70s and 80s was called the Neptunes, and you also have these guys from there.

With all the DoD cuts that will take place in the coming years, this makes absolutely no sense.
