I hope Chris Hansen gets his money back.

Of course they denied the move, Clay Bennett is on the committee, he and Stern are BFF's. Fucking dickbags.

This is definitely in the best interest of the NBA. The league can now dangle Seattle to any city where they're trying to get a new arena built. If that doesn't happen, an expansion franchise in Seattle will fetch more $$$ than one would in Sacramento.

I read something yesterday that said Stern was fed up with teams moving around and that's why he handled New Orleans and now Sacramento the way he did.

As a Kings fan, probably the only one on the board, I'm ecstatic.

The Sacramento Kings, Kansas City Kings, Kansas City-Omaha Kings, Cincinnati Royals, Rochester Royals need some stability

Well, they have been in the same city for 28 years. That's got to count for something...

Didn't mean dick with the Sonics. Stern didn't stick his nose in then to stop his BFF Clay Bennett.

Whatever the past history of the Kings (I still fondly recall the Tiny/Wedman/Birdsong/Lacey team); I believe Stern understands that for the greater stability of the league, you cannot just have teams jumping around every couple of years and at the first sign of problems. Otherwise you become the USFL with fans wondering where the Express play (LA or Edmonton?)

Stern is also starting to think about his legacy since he has a departure date, something that wasn't the case during the Seattle-OKC flap.

That's interesting... I hadn't really thought of it like that. I think based on how he treated the Hornets and now the Kings, you may be right... I seem to remember Seattle's arena issues going on for the better part of a decade and he saw an opportunity to reward OKC for the amazing job the city did when the Hornets were playing there after Katrina.

I think we may be at the point where there should be almost no movement among any teams in the Big Four leagues. It will be interesting to see how long it is before any team in any of the four leagues is allowed to re-locate. I don't think that's a bad thing.

I'm 34 right now, I will bet a large sum of money that Seattle will not have a team before I turn 40. Stern is never gonna let it happen. Never. He hates Seattle.

IIRC, he was in quite the pissing match with the city over the need for a new arena. I don't think he minded moving the team, so he could then go into a couple other cities (one of them Sacramento) and say, "If you don't think we'll let your team move, just look at what happened in Seattle."

As mentioned earlier in the thread, where are you going to go? Options are limited, and you're most often trading one marginal market for another. Seattle is the only one that seems like a no-brainer. Louisville, Virginia Beach, Kansas City, Omaha, Las Vegas -- there's something that would give owners or the league pause about every one of them.
