Which prominent Iraqi official had Saddam in his dead pool?

Who was the idiot who gave Saddam the guns and blessing to ascend to power in the first place?

If Carter hadn't hung the Shah out to dry that wouldn't have happened.

Whatever happened to Tariq Aziz, btw?

Hung the Shah out to dry?
    You're not fucking serious.
The Shah got run out of his country by a genuine populist uprising. What did you propose Carter do? Line up the 82nd Airborne with SAVAK?
And the answer to who armed Saddam and the Baathists goes back to the Kennedy Administration.

I agree with what a few others have said. There's no way this turns out well.

Um, what? The Iranian Revolution happened in February 1979; the Ba'ath Party took power in Iraq in 1968, and Saddam was the No. 2 man in the Ba'ath party at that time.

And if Iran doesn't fall in 79, we aren't snuggling up to Saddam in the 80s.

The 1953 coup was our Iranian fuckup. No 1953 coup, no 1979 revolution.

I'm still struggling to figure out how you connect Saddam coming to power with the Iranian revolution.
