    Because the U.S. officials in Iraq have to hand Saddam over to the Iraqi government before the sentence can be carried out. I believe the legal filing was to prevent that handover.

    Saddam's attorneys petitioned the US judge for a stay, based on the fact that Saddam has an outstanding civil case to be heard in the US. So did one of the other condemned. A real longshot. Both were refused, as far as I know.

    But I agree, the handling and timing of this thing has been abysmal.

    Makes sense. That's also why much of the Arab world will just think they're American stooges.

    Fox would tip-toe around the idea that Queen Elizabeth is really Terrell Owens, if they could time it to lead into American Idol.

    Ha. I just turned to Fox News and the first thing staring at me was Bernie Kerik's mug. Just saying.

    By the way, does anyone have a less TV friendly face than Alan Colmes (sp?)?

    I think that Bernie Kerik just argued that the murder rate is low in Saudi Arabia, because they do public beheadings.
