Doesn't matter how MMA fans feel about him, he's still one of the most visible people associated with UFC. Any other sport, the league is shitcanning him within minutes of his using The Word You Don't Use Around Women, Ever.

Hell, even his "apology" shows he doesn't get it.

If Dana White wants his sport taken more serious by traditional media, then he needs to be more serious about the image he's putting out there.

Maybe. In a world where "artists" who advocate for cop killers are invited to the White House, though, I think the standards are eroding. Marv Albert's back. Chris Brown is on the radio. People just don't get black-balled by this stuff anymore, it seems. No one's suggesting any of those industries are populated solely by prehistoric apes.

I agree that he should do this but he problem is that, for a good portion of MMA fans, this is just the kind of thing that doesn't matter. So a guy goes off and runs his mouth. Great. Who cares?

That's the attitude a lot of UFC fans are going to have because, when push comes to shove, they like their faces of the company to seem "real". They don't want John Madden hocking athlete's foot spray, they want their announcers to drop F-bombs. They don't want their athletes starring in children's flicks, they want them to beat the snot out of each other and talk trash.

It's a sport fueled by testosterone and loved by obnoxious meat heads. Doesn't mean the rest of the fan base is classless but there is a segment that loves this type of behavior. It's just a shame that those fans are ruining the image the company has.

It's a little bit different than fans and a "a few bad apples" argument when arguably the most powerful man in the sport is the one leading the charge for bad behavior. His fans like it, great; but this whole thread is about how MSM/the rest of society doesn't give the sport its proper respect, well, how are they supposed to get respect when they act like this? And it isn't just the isolated case of Dana White. It's the fact that MMA's marquee matches are sponsored by porn sites; and that everyone who has been to a gym has seen firsthand the connection betweeen MMA, steroids and hyperaggressive behavior in the parking lot as well as in the octagon. Ask the cops in your city, many would say they feel safer working security outside the arena after a rap concert than after a UFC event.

It seems that, former MMA detractor, Bernard Hopkins has come around. So maybe there is some hope with older sports writers yet.

Quick, find me one fan that has been beaten at a UFC event the likes of which we have seen at baseball games and football games. You might. If you don't, after time, you surely will. It doesn't mean the sport is not viable. It just means that there are, like most sports, dumb asses that follow it.
I'd also guess that you, sir, have never been to a gym. I have been training at a gym for over a year now, and I have only encountered some of the best men, many of whom serve in the armed forces, that I have ever met.

I'm just fascinated by the concept of John Madden hocking athlete's foot spray.

It should be noted that Dana White helped create this profane meathead demimonde in his fan base by many times being a profane meathead.

Has Dana White booked a fight between Bernard Hopkins and the corpse of Bruce Lee yet? Maybe on the undercard of James Toney versus the Inanimate Carbon Rod?

You could that, but you can't name a Bryan Stow or David Sale (beaten to death at a Phillies game). And, if you want to post some fights, why not just type in football and baseball and see what you get to. Here's some help...

BTW... UFC just signed a nice network deal with Fox. Should mean more fights in 2012. Great stuff.
