  1. It appears that Chuck is drowning and he keeps grabbing for the "but you said baseball is better than ever" life preserver.

    Even though nobody said it.

At least he's given up on the "kids aren't playing baseball" argument.

    It. Doesn't. Matter.

The game's not dying. No matter how much you want to believe it is.

    Drowning!!?!?!?!
Drowning from what? You got numbers right there. Have you read my previous posts? I don't see any drowning signs. Just because it's 1 vs. 43 dosn't mean Im losing buddy.

You're one of the few that believes that ratings don't mean anything. So I can't really argue with you.

So MLB's ratings dropping 50 percent in 10 years means the end of the sport, but the NBA dropping 40 percent during that same period means nothing. Does that about sum it up?

Oh, and BYH says that he never told you that baseball was "better than ever." Just that baseball in its purest form is better than everything else but that what we're seeing right now isn't the purest form.

And if you wanna talk ratings, the NBA Finals ratings are far lower than the World Series.

    Guess basketball's dying.

  7. Gotta agree with sportschick.

Chuck, I'd like to cut you some slack, because I know you're just a kid. But if you're going to hang out on a sports journalism board, try to bring a little more than the NBA fanboy crap. Backing up your argument with facts would be a good start.

But Chuck, ratings are down for everything. That includes baseball, that includes basketball. That includes Wide, Wide World of Sports.

It doesn't say anything, except that it says: people watch less traditional TV options than they did 10 or 20 or 50 years ago, because traditional TV is how those ratings are calculated. The Nielsen formula was developed in the 1940s, and it's based on antiquiated concepts.

Times have changed. People's lifestyles have changed -- TV ratings are outdated. Simple as that.

    I already explained it.
The NBA is going through it's rough time. But it'll be back. It's a star driven league. And now, the stars' teams are playing for championships.
You got more teams playing uptempo and with the rapid growth of popularity overseas, the talent level in the NBA is going to continue to jump.

You believe that, but not everyone over here does. When the finals ratings came out, evvvvvvvverybody here was all over it.

You can't win the title that way is what I said. Nothing you said here disputes that.

Come on, Chuck. At least put forth some honest effort here.

OK, I've changed my tune: ratings for NBC's Game of the Week, with Joe Garagiola and Tony Kubek, are down to 0%.

Chuckster wins. Baseball = Dead. :D

Can't speak for Zeke, but based on simple math, 18 to the field for baseball, and 10 to the court on basketball, I would argue more kids are playing baseball than basketball.
You would need almost twice as many kids playing organized hoops to equal the amount of kids playing baseball.
Now if you were going to mix in race, I could see an argument that more black kids are playing basketball. But for Hispanics, I'd argue that basketball might be third and more likely fourth in popularity. So on the whole, more total kids are playing baseball.
But I'd bet that for kids under the age of 10, more are playing soccer than anything else.
