Obviously pool is more popular than baseball.

My lord, there are a lot of straw man arguments in this thread.

I'd like to point out that not every state sanctions baseball, so the number of kids playing in, say Montana, won't show up in TSP's stats.

EDIT: Grrrrrrrr, must have more coffee before I post.

And some states have both high school ball and Legion ball.

All I'm saying is your personal crusade against baseball is one-note and shrill. I don't need stats to back that up.

  6. Waiting for Chuck to say how the NBA will soon be overtaking the NFL

Well, obviously it will. Because playing basketball by your owndamnself is funner than anything.

The NBA will be number 2 in the future.

Yep, of course, down play the facts. You got stats right there that show more kids play basketball. You asked for it, there it is.

Bubbler, you gotta understand something about me. I don't come after people for no reason. When people started to thread jack NBA threads, I wasn't just sit there and take it.

P.S. I don't hate any one of you. This is just a discussion.
Again, organized sports dosn't neccesarily mean everything. Kids play pick up ball too. And as you can from those stats, basketball is the most popular program for kids.

I didn't ask for stats. Youth sports stats are meaningless, as people are quick to point out when soccernistas talk about the popularity of soccer. Using "participation by children now = increased popularity when they're adults" as a formula, you'd have to assume professional video gaming would be a huge spectator sport in 10 years.

As I stated early in the thread, I think the NBA's biggest problem is timing. The Finals are played during the time of the year when the weather is almost perfect. It's warm, but not too hot. The sun is out until after 8 p.m. I didn't watch a single second of the NBA Finals. Not because I dislike the NBA or the teams playing, but because I was outside. When the World Series rolls around in late October, that won't be the case.

    Ratings are out. Worst ever...

June 15 (Bloomberg) -- Television ratings for the National Basketball Association Finals were an all-time low, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Walt Disney Co.’s ABC network broadcast of the San Antonio Spurs’ four-game sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers drew an average of 6.2 percent of U.S. homes, lower than the previous record of 6.5 percent set in 2003, when the Spurs defeated the New Jersey Nets in the best-of-seven series.

I thought TV ratings didn't mean anything
