    Oz,

Wasn't Boldin traded for a three and a four?

Actually the Ravens gave up a third and a fourth for Boldin. They did get a 5th back from the Cardinals.

To answer Mustang's earlier query, Muhsin Muhammad once caught 16 TDs in a season -- from Steve Beuerlein, IIRC. Sometimes there are weird statistical anomolies, and it appears Edwards' 16-TD season and Anderson's Pro Bowl in 2007 with the Browns were examples of that. Edwards has talent, but so does every player in the NFL. He'll never approach great for any extended period of time.

Edwards is a big play receiver that can't make little plays. Holmes, Cotchery and Dustin Keller are pretty good complements to him this year. Jets are arguably the team to beat in the AFC, especially if they get Jason Taylor to replace Vernon Gholston's worthless ass.

Sweed is a disaster. He may not even make that team with Holmes gone.

Wallace is not even close to Holmes at this point. Let's get rid of that idea right now. He had a few big games and some other big plays as a third receiver with teams focusing on Holmes and Ward. It's going to be a hell of a lot tougher for him as a No. 2 and he has not proven anything, while Holmes was the team's best receiver.

In truth, this is really only one year of Holmes they are giving up because there is no way they were going to re-sign him after the 2010 season. Not with his track record.

The comparisons to their handling of Roethlisberger are interesting, but the situations are quite different. Roethlisberger is an idiot who has proven that he has no sense about staying away from bad situations, but he does not have the criminal record that Holmes has.

Roethlisberger also wasn't facing a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy, which Holmes is. The NFL made that official today.

Quite a few people on and off this board gleefully compared the Steelers to the Bengals and Ravens over the last few weeks, going on about how the franchise does not deserve a positive reputation. To a point, I agreed with some of those points. Looks like we were all wrong.

Now are they doing this because they think it is the right thing or just because they think Holmes is more trouble than he is worth? That is an interesting question. But whatever the reason, character obviously does play some role in the Steelers' personnel decisions despite what some others have been saying of late.

If you're counting on Sweed, you're in trouble.

The Jets D should hold most teams to 17 ro under. What both Edwards and Holmes bring is the ability to ring up an instant 7. Do that enough times in Sept-Dec and they might be hosting playoff games in Jan.

Holmes also brings more consistency on intermediate and short routes, something the Jets needed.

OOP, good take, but I think Wallace is closer to Homes as a rookie than you might think.

    Holmes - 49-824-16.8 2 TDs

    Wallace - 39 - 756 - 19.4 6 TDs

Next year, Holmes should have a better year, but I think Wallace can be every bit as good. He had four scoring plays over 40 yards. That is pretty impressive.

I know Holmes is much, much better after the catch (just ask Baltimore), but Wallace can get downfield and behind everyone.

I hope the Steelers still draft a DB or OL in the first round and focus on a receiver later, perhaps in round two. That said, you think Golden Tate -- a player who came to Pittsburgh for a visit -- would be available at No. 52?

Wallace is a burner and he has shown the ability to make a tough catch as well, but he really doesn't seem to be elusive at all once he has the ball in his hands. The Steelers are really going to miss having wideouts on both sides of the field who can catch a short route and make a play.

Sure, Wallace showed some serious promise as a rookie, but Holmes was still better as a rookie. Also, he has developed well beyond that. The guy is an idiot and I get why they dumped him, but he is also a hell of a clutch player. Not only did he have the game of his life in Super Bowl XLIII, but he was also oustanding in every playoff game that year. Wallace has a long way to go to reach Holmes' level.

Pretty sure Hines Ward was the MVP of that Super Bowl.

    Randle El should have been.
