I read a review of an advance screening online a while ago and it was really bad.

Most speculation has Brainiac as the next Superman villain -- tailor-made for merchandise sales (dolls, masks, etc etc.) and suitably fearsome if depicted as a Borg/Terminator from a world more powerful than Krypton itself. Presumably Luthor will be relegated to a secondary role. The main thing they gotta do is quit ripping off/trying to replicate the 1980s films (i.e. get rid of the gasbag Marlon Brando for starters).

I'll reserve my thoughts on the movie until a lot of people have seen it, but advance tracking numbers are suggesting the movie does, indeed, have a shot at $400 or $500 million in U.S. box office alone. The exhaustive, relentless marketing campaign, Heath Ledger's death, the reviews…it's the perfect storm.

I haven't seen it, but $400-$500 mil would seem very high for a movie that is apparently so dark.

I think Batman will top or get very close to $1 billion worldwide.
Plus my local Imax theater charges $15 for one ticket and that will add up quick.
The first three nights here for all showings that day, are already soldout because of pre-sales.

I can see $1 Billion worldwide. I can't see $500 million domestic. Wouldn't that put it second all-time?

$500M would put it in second above Star Wars, $100M and change behind Titantic. I can see this easily topping $400M. Looking this up, I was shocked how low Batman Begins is on the list (No. 81).

  10. I didn't think Batman Begins has nearly the hype this one does, though. For me, that was a film that vastly exceeded my expectations and is one of the two big reasons (along with what I've seen of Ledger as the Joker) I'm so pumped about this one.
In fact, I didn't even see that one until at least a year after it was available for rent. I'll see Dark Knight within the first week in the theatre.

I bet if GF 3 had been just a random gangster film it might have been more well received. Only cause it had the name Godfather and had to live up to the first two was it seen as terrible. Aside from dreadful acting by Coppola and Fonda the movie was not that bad.

Another violator of the Godfather 3 rule was the Bourne movie.
All three were good, and I think that the third might have been the best of the bunch.

Kokane: Cool site, I wonder what the numbers would look like adjusted for today's ticket prices. But the one I find hard to believe is that the Passion of The Christ was No. 11 and made nearly $400 million.
    Whoa.
