Saw The Dark Knight last night...

  1. And it set the record for fastest to $350 million at 14 days. Second is Pirates 2 at 23 days. That's impressive.

I've avoided even reading this thread because I hadn't seen the movie until today.

Oh my God. Heath Ledger was phenomenal. Morgan Freeman was amazing. Christian Bale was even pretty good.

    Wow. That's all I've got.

I think that may have been the first compliment I've heard of Freeman's work, basically because he played the same guy he always plays. But he does it so well.

Cruised over to the Imax theater in my town last night.
Sold out. Sold out today. Sold out tomorrow. Sold out for this week and then the next.
Every afternoon and evening show for the next two weeks.
The girl at the ticket counter said they had added an 8 a.m. showing just to handle the requests, but then dropped it after a couple of days, because no would come in at 8 a.m.
    Not customers, but the workers.
I had already seen it, but the girl hadn't.
So rest of the other showings were sold out and the counter girl helpfully suggested Hancock. So that's what we watched.
Hancock not as bad as I imagined, but it could have been better.
I figure a sequel will roll out on it, since it has made a big pile of money as well.
Couple hundred million as a I recall.

You wanted to see The Dark Knight and she sold you on Hancock?

That's like wanting to eat a Philly Cheesesteak from Philadelphia and instead settling for a bag of Doritos from the vending machine last updated in 1985.

More complaints about Bale's voice when he is in the Batman costume.

I like that they mentioned Kevin Conroy. I assume it is easier to just provide the voice, but Conroy still does that better than anybody who has ever played the part, live action or animated.

The voice doesn't really bother me. I mean he can't sound like Bruce Wayne or someone will recognize him.

I couldn't pull off wearing bow ties myself, but I thought Morgan Freeman's clothes were great.

bale's voice sounds like barry white trying to imitate macy gray singing with a snickers caught in her throat.

I agree that the character has to sound different depending on whether he is in costume or out. Conroy does it that way, too, but it is so much smoother.

Pardon the super-nerd stuff that follows.

Bale sounds like himself (without the native accent) as Wayne, then he growls out his lines as Batman. Conroy sounds closer to himself as Batman, then raises the pitch of his voice for Wayne, which seems to work better.

Hell, Michael Keaton did a better job altering his voice than Bale. You could definitely tell a difference, but he did not sound ridiculous as Batman or Bruce Wayne.

OK, I saw TDK last week. Before I get into my thoughts, I must first say I'm not much of a "Superhero Comic Book" fan. Liked Christopher Reeve as Superman. Loved Batman with Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Liked the first Spiderman.

For all the hype surrounding TDK, I was slightly disappointed. For the most part, this was a typical action movie. I mean, some people have said "This is the best movie since ..." Since? I think Indy 4 was comparable. Yes, Heath Ledger was pretty awesome, but seriously, an Oscar nomination? He wasn't even better than Nicholson. I did like some of the supporting characters. Harvey Dent was great, I thought. Christopher Bale was so-so. And I liked Freeman and Caine, but the Alfred from the 1989 Batman was better.

I was pretty excited to see this movie, and I don't go see many movies in the theater anymore unless it's something I feel comfy taking my kids too. I liked TDK. And I thought Ledger was good. Not funny like Nicholson, but very sick and sadistic and believable. But let's be honest - If Ledger was still alive, there would be no Oscar talk for him. I won't be surprised if he gets a nomination, and he may very well deserve it based on other performances. But I don't see it.

Disagree. Thought Ledger was great. A rare performance where I would want to go back and see it again just to watch him act.
