I think Ledger would be getting major awards buzz if he were still alive -- the Joker role is so diametrically opposite to his previously-most-noted role in Brokeback Mountain.

Alfred, etc., Nicholson, Ledger . . .matters of opinion and taste which I will not argue about.

But I must protest one comparison. . . . Dark Knight was a well-done superhero film, enjoyable and something that moved the series forward.

Indy 4 was a steaming pile of "why in the hell did they bother?!!?!?!?"

  3. You are welcome to your opinion, but no way Nicholson was better than Ledger. That's not even in the same ballpark.
And I have no doubt Ledger would get a nomination if he was still alive. Would he win? Maybe not, but that's simply an amazing performance.
I think it is considerably better than the guy in No Country last year.

It's a matter of script and character.

Nicholson was just able to play "Nicholson with cool makeup" while Ledger had to create something weird.

thank you, demo. agree that the ncfom guy wasn't all that great.

  6. I thought he was good, but Ledger was amazing.
Seriously, that's a performance I will remember for a long, long time.
    No Country, meh.

I don't want to sound like I hated TDK. Good movie for sure and Ledger was the show. But for all the hype? Best movie since ... ? Oscar talk? Just didn't see it.

Wouldn't it be possible to get a posthumous Oscar?

I think it depends where and when you go see it. I went Sunday afternoon and the theater was nearly empty. And I was worried the movie might be sold out by the time I went (half hour before it was scheduled to start showing).

Found this interview with Ledger about playing the Joker. He looks very neurotic in this interview, wow.

Pretty sure Starman was responding to someone saying Ledger was only getting award talk because he's dead, that no one would have been raving if he were still alive.
