That makes sense. I think Ledger's performance was great whether he's alive now or not.

Saw it again last night. On third viewing, it was better than each of the last two times; maybe because the theater was quiet.

Still, another thing I noticed before but forgot to mention. When they catch him, he has knives in his pockets, and he explains why he likes to use knives as opposed to guns.

Yet in the film, you see him shoot people, burn a stack of money, etc. He only really uses a knife on a victim once, on the mobster whose face he cuts. Thought that was funny that he would give that speech, when he clearly likes to use everything. Probably just to tick off the cop at the door.

Very good movie, still. Overrated in all the insane praise, but very, very good.

  3. He was carrying how many knives, though? And he pulls a knife on Rachel.
    He definitely likes knives.

    And in an R-rated film, that aspect probably gets developed . . . . . .

Movie is third all-time in the US behind Star Wars and Titanic now...after ONE MONTH of release.

Especially impressive since the price of movie tickets hasn't changed a bit since Star Wars was released in 1977 (and rereleased in 1978, 1982, and 1997) and since Titanic was in theaters in 1997.

    EDIT: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm

    Numbers mean so little.

    Inflation, Inflation, blah blah blah.

I'm just saying that the movie is ranked third all-time after four weeks in the box office. I'm not saying it's the greatest film in the history of cinema, I'm just saying that's impressive.

And if you want to get technical, neither of the three films compares to Gone With The Wind once you factor in inflation.

Also, exactly what big movies did Titanic and Star Wars and Gone With The Wind compete with? Exactly.

The crazy thing about Titanic, which we'll never see again I'm assuming, is how long it was in theaters. I didn't see it now, but read somewhere about how long it took to make like 200 million. But it just kept going and going and going. Was No. 1 for 15 straight weeks, a Federesque type mark. And was in theaters for nine months!

You can't trumpet numbers then say "blah blah blah" to inflation. You don't get to ignore the part of the story that displeases you.

What seminal event film is Dark Knight competing with?

    - Shittiest Indiana Jones film with zero staying power
    - Iron Man ran its course before Dark Knight was released
    - Gee, I guess we found out Hulk ISN'T "the second most-popular Marvel HERO!!!!" after all.
    - etc.

As for the other ones: Gone with the wind might not even be the most historically beloved film of 1939. I'll let you figure out what the other little movie that came out that year was.

Box office numbers are less impressive every year, since they are inflated by higher ticket prices. Yay for Dark Knight; it's a good movie. But if you want to try to hold it up to some historical standard, honesty when applying that standard is key.

Oh, that's not fair, Mr. Movie Script.

Give him some time to finish his wikipedia search.
