    California:

    Compton Tarbabes

While this seems highly inappropriate for a predominantly black school, here's an explanation.

"California is still home, amazingly, to the Tarbabes of Compton High School, whose name never had any racial connotation (nearby Compton College's teams were the Tartars, so the high school adopted Tartar Babies, later shortened to Tarbabes.)"

Couple of more Virginia references. The beauty of the John Marshall Justices, mentioned above, is the cheerleader who dresses in the judicial robe and the wig. Furthermore, he holds a gavel. Awesome.
Nelson County: the Governors. I believe the JV teams or the middle school teams are known as the Lieutenant Governors, which, if true, is brilliant.

Majettes. One of the MHS cheerleders used to dress in a tux like a magician, complete with a top hat and "presto" cane as props.

Opponents used to yell, 'Kill the rabbit!"

Almost forgot, from Indiana, the Vincennes Lincoln Alices. They were named after the book "Alice of Old Vincennes," which was written by a local author that was the literary sensation of 1900. (OK, I had to look that up.) The book itself can be read here:

Other sites show that apparently everything in Vincennes at one time was called Alice something-or-other.

    I was a Lincoln Railsplitter.

Always thought the Fisher Bunnies sounded like the most cupcake team ever. Then I saw that Hickman Kewpies team from Columbia, Mo.

Back in Illinois, it's too bad York hasn't taken advantage of the opportunity to sell its name to become the Peppermint Patties.

However, I believe there's a school not far from there that plays its football at Rust-O-Leum Field.
