I believe LW dropped the purple and is just the Kangaroos now.

And no, no love from a west-of-Lake Washington KingCo opponent.

    I love the Kangaroos.

My high school has a rather racially insensitive name, we were the Tomahawks.

  4. I believe Leesville HS in Louisiana is also known as the Wampus Cats.

And there is another I remember from the Lake Charles area called the Washington-Marion Chargin' Indians.

They dropped the Purple? Hell, I might have to be crazed alumnus and call and yell at them. They were so proud of the Purple part when I went there so it would surprise me if they dropped it.

Atoka, Okla. and Conway, Ark. are also Wampus Cats.

In Texas, Bridgeport's boys teams are the Bullies (Bulls) and the girls are the Sissies.

Nice view of the place from the school's track, too. Had a meet there in junior high and just seeing the place gave me the heebie-jeebies...

Played against Camas. Castle Rock, Ilwaco and Ridgefield were in my school's league when I was there. Kalama has basically replaced Ridgefield since. Also in that area is the Toutle Lake (Fighting) Ducks. The mascot in the logo looks like a pissed-off Donald.

    Another addition: Clarkston Bantams

Only for the name...not the school :D

I was a Spudster on its last boys junior varsity basketball team. Old Hastings High merged with all-black Harris High School and became Wildcats -- not Tigers -- in 1970 and promptly won state championship in football, a la Remember the Titans.

A few good ones I left out, from around the Midwest:

Michigan (the U.P. again): Houghton Gremlins
    Iowa: Sigourney-Keota Savage Cobras
Illinois: Fulton Unity Christian Knights (go ahead and spell that one out in a cheer!)

Didn't realize there were so many good nicknames in Indiana ... although I hear the Greenwood Woodmen are a bunch of stiffs this season.

Some more from Florida, some still in use:

    Fort Lauderdale Flying L's
    Miami Stingarees
    Okeechobee Brahmans
    Callahan Ramblers
    Kissimmee Osceola Kowboys
    Palatka Azaleas

On an unrelated note. Is/was West Philadelphia High called the Speedboys?
