Scoop Jackson vs. Whitlock (round 6)

Discussion in 'Journalism topics only' started by Almost_Famous, Dec 29, 2006.

  1. Songbird, I'm gonna have to think about this before responding. My initial reaction would be I'm not embarrassed by Scoop. It's something different. Scoop is a 40-something black man who addresses racial issues (my pet subject) in a childish, ignorant manner.

Why would you be embarrased by someone else who doesn't represent you, particularly one you don't seem to like very much? He represents himself, not you. If you feel even the slightest bit of embarrasment, bow your head and I will do my special invocation that absolves you of all responsibility for everything done by every other black person.

Yeah, it's the "something different" that really resonates. I don't think you hate Scoop, either.

In my two years here, phrases that have clung to my mind are pussy_eaten charmion, twatwaffle, douchenozzle, and bojangling, and your very specific use of "bojangling" in posts about Scoop and Michael Irvin is the "something different" I'd love for you to explore and share with us. To me, your rift with Scoop isn't professional. I think it's personal for obvious reasons you really wish didn't have to exist, because dammit, who the fuck needs Scoop Jackson or Michael Irvin to perpetuate the same old stereotypical bullshit that keeps the race from moving forward?

Not trying to be a shrink, but that's my basic take on it.

    whitlock,

You're right. Sportsbruh didn't write that. Unless that woman is sportsbruh.

Maybe you could explain why her argument is so flawed and simple-minded to you. At the very least it attacks your view of "bojangling" and, indeed, the very concept of it, too. Have an answer to that?

Again - not saying I agree with all of it. But it's sincere and serious, at the very least. Not inane fanboy tripe.

  5. Because JW got caught calling somebody a Tom, invented a word the full ramifications of which he plainly doesn't understand, threw it around like a puppy with a rubber bone, and is now backing and filling.

I think he understands the full ramifications of the word. I think if Spike Lee ever does start his J-school, this issue will be a subject, bigtime.

He can't Alma. That article was a SLAM DUNK on Jason. He should have allowed Scoop his little corner and went about his business. What Jason did was career SUICIDE. He can FOOL you people into believing that he was standing up to the MAN. When in actuality he was trying to KILL-OFF a brotha's perspectives.

    Bottom line:
The FACT remains. Scoop Stays with ESPN and Dan Lebatard gets the gig at PTI.

The Sports Reporters have TERMINATED Jason's input.

ESPN's Page 2 Nolonger have The Big Ugly's rants.

Jim Rome is Nolonger Jason's domain.

Hate it or love it. Jason is DONE! SILENCED! KICKED TO THE CURB!

If anything, this was the best thing Scoop could have done - Rid us of Jason's ungodly measurements and effeminate tirades.

It's obviously, Jason is still bitter. Quite Frankly, He'll probably NEVER get over it.

If Spike Lee ever does start his J-school, SportsJournalists.com is going to be a 200-level course.

Then I must be grouchier and more jaded, because I don't remember you doing this silly shit back then. And you didn't. I took a vacation to Kansas City around that time and stayed at a friend's place, and he had stacks of old KC Star sports sections in his den. When the dude and his girlfriend were at work one day, I must have read damn near every one of those in my boredom. Oh, you were big in KC but you'd not swollen to your frighteningly national proportions as yet. You're never going to be the viper you think you are, but that was still some solid work back in the day. You hadn't been poisoned by the Me-Me-Me brand of journalism you learned at ESPN and there was a real sense of purity to your work. But that was a long fucking time ago, and that ship has long since sailed.

In its own way, this is, you all have to admit, a pretty funny post.

  12. I am required to admit this?
    I don't think so.
It is pretty damn slouthy, though/
