Well, shit, that's all they needed to put together a six-run inning.

    Disbeliever!

Yep, I probably should have included that as I was posting, they were down 4-0 and the Cubs were getting dizzy from rounding the bases so frequently this week. Didn't realize a call-out from me could be so effective.

    Never sell yourself short.

And the Cubs didn't have to run around the bases at all for those four runs. They trotted around on three home runs.

    So there.

And the collapse continues, and Clint Hurdle probably earned himself some more criticism for mishandling his bullpen with this one.

The Pirates had a 6-4 lead entering the eighth inning, but instead of going to his top set-up man, Jose Veras, Hurdle turns the ball over to Dan McCutchen, who promptly loads the bases on two walks and a hit batsman. Jason Grilli faces one batter, giving up and RBI single, and Joe Beimel walks in another run before Hurdle finally gives the ball to Veras.

Veras gave up the go-ahead run on a sac fly, but got out of the inning with no further damage.

Now they give up 15 runs to the offensively-challenged Padres, nine of them by the flukish Jeff Karstens. Yeah, reality is setting in hard now.

The Padres, third from the bottom of the major leagues in runs scored, have have scored 13 runs in the first eight innings tonight after scoring 15 last night against two of the Pirates' top three pitchers. Yikes.

Too bad this isn't the steelers getting shitcanned every game - that might just be enough to get you to jump off the Fort Duquesne Bridge

You just loved every minute of the 2006 season, didn't you?

Well, they could still end an 18-year run of losing seasons. There's still something to watch here.

That call in the 19-inning game killed their season. Including that game, Pirates are 1-11 since the ump blew the call.
