Has there ever been a pro athlete, boxing and pro wrestling excluded, who was possibly the team's bast player, murdered during the season?

Dale Earnhardt Sr., Lenny Bias, Reggie Lewis and others all passed, but this is the only case I can think of where an athlete was taken from active competition via a murder.

  2. Lymon Bostock?

Lyman Bostock was murdered in his prime but I don't believe he was the best player on his team even though he was damn good.

They play the Bills next, and Buffalo still has a slim shot at the playoffs. I hate to say it, but you do have to factor them into the equation.

There is no easy answer to the "do they play" question.

So 1978 was well before the ESPN non-stop coverage era. I guess there is nothing to compare to this tragedy in a media sense.

Move Sunday to Monday and next Thursday to Sunday. Just a thought.

That makes sense. Think there's a chance of it actually happening?

  8. as a new father, the thing that saddens me the most is that he leaves behind a small child. Nothing can replace her father, but hopefully she grows up in a loving and stable household (and hopefully his girlfriend and daughter will be able to keep the bulk of the money he leaves behind as well)

Damn, damn, damn. I wake up to hear this and I'm stunned.

Moddy, you called it with your post above. Also expect a few cliched "this puts sports into perspective." I'm getting off topic here, but I have to agree with Andrew Siciliano that if you need perspective to understand something, then you have no perspective to start with at all.

Most of them will throw themselves into the game on Sunday for therapy's sake. Condolences and prayers to Taylor's family, friends, and the 'Skins.

Just on pure sight alone, there were only two NFL players I've ever seen that just intimidated the hell out of the football player in me. One was Simeon Rice, dressed in black/white/gray camo during a post-game scrum. The other was Sean Taylor. This year - I'd even say within the past month - I saw him walk off the practice field and wondered, would I really want to go across the middle on him?

    Hell no.

RIP. A sad day in Washington. The guy was one whale of a football player and had seemed like he had gotten his life on track. I feel worst for guys like Moss and Portis, who were particularly close to him. Who would've ever thought that the Redskins' devastating safety duo would never even make it to its prime?

Tomorrow's not going to be a fun day... I have a feeling we'll be sequestered in the media room.

    No. F_ing. Way.
The NFL is bigger than one murdered player.[/Rozelle.Taglibue.Goodell.]

I was seven when Lyman Bostock was killed and remember crying in my parents' bedroom. Thurman Munson died the next year and, in many ways, those two instances are my first memories of death.
