    Darrent Williams, last year.

My thoughts go out to Taylor's family, who regardless of how any of this shakes out, just lost a son, a father, a cousin, a nephew, etc. One who, by all accounts, was apparently trying to turn things around after the birth of his daughter.

I'm just sorry he didn't get a chance to fully enjoy it.

  2. Very sad day for Taylor's family and football. God be with him, and prayers to his family and friends.

Williams died after the last game of the season for the Broncos, so technically his death was not mid-season.

    And RIP to Taylor.

Point, wicked. I just saw in a story where Williams was referenced as being the last NFL player to die during the NFL season, but I didn't look up the date.

It was before my time, too, but I read stories about it and watched interviews on television, particularly when Rozelle retired as commissioner. That was his greatest regret about his time on the job. I know some players were deeply upset about playing. If I remember correctly, Mike Ditka has spoken about this.

Obviously, it's not exactly the same as what the Redskins are going through, but you have to try to understand what a devastating effect that assassination had on this country.

Well there were still playoffs to be played, so the story technically isn't wrong.

Yeah, but I assumed his team still played after the death when it said he died during last season. I was wrong.

Most modern security systems alert the dispatch office when the phone lines are cut.

And, as stated earlier, if you're going to kill somebody you don't shoot them in the groin/thigh hoping to hit that artery.

This sounds more and more like a burglary gone wrong. Taylor goes to investigate the noise, burgler(s) are startled and randomly shoot in his direction.

Actually, the crazy thing is that the Broncos should have won that final game and made the playoffs. One wonders if Williams would have been out that night, then.

Except the reports I've read say the intruder kicked in the bedroom door. So it's not like he was startled. He was the instigator in the confrontation.

Whether the shots were fired randomly or not, I don't know. But the reports are that the intruder busted into the room, so he had to expect some sort of confrontation.

The strangest part of the whole thing is that his house had been broken into once (I feel like I've actually heard twice) in the past 10 days or so, and during that previous break nothing was taken and just a knife was left on a bed. I have no idea what any of that means, but it certainly raises a bunch of questions about this intrusion. If this was simply a burglary, was this a different intruder(s)? And if it was the same, and it was simply a burglary, why wouldn't they have taken anything when they were last time? And why would you leave a knife on the bed? Sending some sort of message? I have no idea, but that previous break makes this whole thing much more complex.

I would imagine leaving a knife on the bed is like wrapping a fish in newspaper and putting it on someone's desk or in their office.
