He probably got shot in the leg because the perp panicked at seeing one of the baddest men in the NFL coming at him with a machete. The perp was probably more worried about disabling him at that point than getting the clean kill shot.

Tragic loss, to be sure, but every time I hear about the machete, I think of Sean Taylor as Treach from Naughty by Nature.

Unless the intruder didn't know anybody was home. The house was empty when it was broken into previously.

The knife left on the bed might be a sign. Might have been a stupid mistake by the burglers the first time.

Wow. Woke up this morning and what's the first thing I see when I turn on the computer? What a shame. Thoughts and prayers to his family, especially his one-year-old daughter. What a shame.

Thoughts go out to the Taylor and Redskins families.

  6. The Washington Post reported there is no security system at the house. Perhaps the burgler(s) knew this and cut the phone line anyway to stop the police from being called.

If you didn't think anyone was home, wouldn't you open the door using a doorknob?

I really hope I'm wrong, but this smells like a hit. There are just too many signals for this to be anything else.

Leaving a knife on the bed.

    Cutting the phone lines.

Bursting through the bedroom door, shooting.

Taylor being shot through the groin.

This wasn't a smash-and-grab job. This was send a message and make sure no one can come after you.

Can you even call those previous intruders burglars? They didn't take anything. Apparently all he/they did was leave a knife on a bed. That's obviously a message. If they were burglars, no one was home, so what would have stopped them from, you know, burglarizing the house?

Your last two things don't match. Busting through the door shooting doesn't imply precision. Being shot in the groin wouldn't generally kill someone.

You're assuming that information about the door being kicked in -- which could only come from Taylor's girlfriend -- is factual. Might be, might not be. Might be something incorrectly leaked. Might be just speculation. I think we need to hear more facts before we decide someone rolled to Taylor's house with the intention of killing him.

I was assuming, DD, that it came from cops since they would have been in said bedroom and would have noticed the door being damaged from said kick.
