urgrad2004, it absolutely matters. If this crime was retaliatory, maybe it will send a message to at least one kid out there that living the way Taylor did for most of his life probably isn't a good idea.

Wracking my brain here, and can't come up with one since Chuck Hughes ...

Korey Stringer, J.V. Cain, Thomas Herrion --- preseason
Darrent Williams --- night after last game
Fred Lane, Joe Delaney, David Overstreet, Larry Gordon, Derrick Thomas, David Griggs --- all during the offseason

He's almost certainly the most prominent active player to die since Derrick Thomas ...

EDIT --- The above list doesn't include Pat Tillman, because I don't know that he had any intention of returning to the NFL had he lived ... and he died in April anyway. (Also added Cain, Herrion and Lane).

Side note: The text ads on the site have picked "Darrent Williams" so now, when you see a player who died, you get the following text in a pop-up balloon.

Hell, I'll pay every month without being a subscriber to not have that pop up.

    Hoo boy.

1.) This is on par with Len Bias and Reggie Lewis? They were shot to death? Not. even. close. to on par.

2.) You want us to focus on the tragedy, yet all you do is gush about what a player he was. You criticize ESPN for leading the First Take or whatever with gossipy stuff instead of the really important stories, yet in the grand scheme here, is it important to gush over what a player Taylor was? or to note that he left behind an infant daughter?

3.) You tell us to quit talking about theories and to let the police do their job, yet you criticize ESPN for not having wall-to-wall coverage five hours after he died. Well, wall-to-wall coverage would be exactly what you supposedly don't want. There are precious few facts here thus far, just speculation. To spend hours covering it would be feeding the beast.

Don't worry though. You'll get wall-to-wall coverage soon, and you'll probably criticize it.

BYH, Your right if ESPN provided more coverage they'd probably focus on the investigation part of it. Sorry I contradicted myself by saying there should be more coverage, but it should be less on the investigation and more on the tragedy involved. That's just not possible.

I'm more angry at how people say things like "this should get good" as the investigation is uncovered. At the same time, it added fuel to the fire to see another Romo celebrity girlfriend story. Who really cares?

How many clips can you run saying, "this is a tragedy. it's really a sad day."

Run that in a loop over and over and over again for an hour? A test pattern would draw better.

I feel bad for his family. I do. But I don't know what it is that you want out of the media here.

Guess I should have included the word "adult" in there. It was implied. Are you saying the guy's past is not questionable? It not, I stand corrected.

I'm sure all of the Redskins fanboy bloggers they allow in the press box will be right on top of this scoop. (too soon??)

Seems like the house/crime scene would give a pretty strong indication to the police whether this was a burglary gone bad or an intended hit.

If there's at least a minimal amount of stuff in disarray, that would indicate the intruders were searching for something/items of value to take and were perhaps startled to find out that people were in the house.

On the other hand, if the house and the items contained within are basically untouched, that would certainly lead to the hypothesis that the intruders were looking for someone and not something.

It could be easy to be shot in the groin with this kind of circumstance. The door gets kicked in, Taylor makes a move to get off the bed with his machete. Intruder fires a shot at that very moment and it catches him right there. It all seems plausible.
