In floating possible motives and methods - other than the broad historical tides mentioned elsewhere - it arose that perhaps Mr. Taylor was set upon by a jealous lover of one kind or another. No better or worse a theory than any other, I guess, until we actually know what happened.

Don't assume that any of the street hoods who have a gun can actually shoot it.

I'm guessing they were going for his johnson to send a clear message, missed the first shot, connected with the second and blind squirreled into the femoral artery.

Everyone who has watched the Wire knows there are certain codes (don't kill on Sunday mornings. Who knew?), and possibly the mom was spared because of the child.

Is there some street law about not killing mothers of children so kid will have one parent?

    Dear Jesus,

    Why are you crying?

Maybe if they stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night?

If you ever cross paths with a police officer, ask him or her about The Wire. To a person, they say it is the most realistic show on television about inner city.

Detective Edward Burns (retired) served in the Baltimore City Police Department's Drug Control Unit. Edward Burns is a retired 20-year veteran of the Baltimore, Maryland, Police Department, where he specialized in homicide investigation, and worked extensively on inner-city drug gangs. After retiring from the police department, he began teaching in Baltimore middle and high schools. He has coauthored the book The Corner with David Simon, creator of the television program Homicide, and cocreated the television series The Wire with Simon.

Look, Devil, nobody loves and appreciates The Wire more than I do (and frankly, how you could watch it and offer so many clueless posts about race baffles me, but that's a topic for another thread) but we've been making jokes for the last few pages about how you shouldn't use television theories to support real life instances. As realistic as The Wire is, it's still a drama written by writers. For all the adherence to the rules of The Game and "man's got to have a code" that it teaches, there is still 1,000 examples of street violence that never make it into the show because frankly a junkie breaking into your house to steal your TV because he's coked out of his mind doesn't provide a very interesting narrative arc.

If your only experience with violent crime is what you know by watching it on television, you're obviously going to think this is some kind of grand conspiracy. But if you cover crime in a major city, if you talk to cops, or talk to people who live in neighborhoods where drugs are bought, sold and used, they'll tell you there's sometimes no rhyme or reason to it.

I posted this in the LeBatard thread and I'll repeat it here: For some of us, this HAS to be partially Sean Taylor's fault or some kind of lover's tryst because if it was just random, than it could be MY house next time, and that's too scary to think about. And I don't want to think about that while I'm watching bowl games and wrapping Christmas presents.

Thanks for the detailed response. And you are correct, The Wire, thankfully, is just about all I know of innercity other than what I also read. I have no real first hand experience. But I do have a lot of experience in lower middle and above social settings.

I was trying to discount the potential of the girl being a suspect. It's just something that I am not buying.

I know this is a cold statement, but do Taylor's NFL checks now stop? He did not have guaranteed money, right? At most he would receive the remainder of the season, and that is that right? Did he have insurance?

I just do not see the woman as an instigator of all of this. Could she be the reason? Sure.

Snyder has made clear that Taylor's family will get all the dough. And Taylor will count for a little over two-million on the cap next year.

Why did they go back? They made two trips to the same place?

I hate to say it, but I am not having that many questions answered and more are being created.

I'm guessing the NFL will take that off the cap. Leagues usually do that when players die away from the field/court, like Reggie Lewis ... wait ...
