Agree 100 percent with both of you. Except that Jake was making a point about RPI. I was doing that AND engaging in fanboi bitchery.

I'd say that it's always been a qualified mindset. Otherwise Ole Miss would be above Florida. (And in interviews Sunday, I didn't really hear the head of the committee talking about "how are you playing right now" as a criteria).

I guess it boils down to the fact that this omnipotent selection committee goes in the back and hashes out the participants for this multi-billion dollar tournament, and the criteria seems to be ever-changing. That's what frustrates people when trying to figure out why their team got a lower seed or didn't make the field.

FWIW, the NCAA is being consistent in that inconsistency. Every single selection committee in every single sport in every single division does the same thing.

If this mythical "consistency" existed, the bracket would never get done, because just about every team seeded 9 or lower has lost to a bubble team that got left out, and all of them have plenty of checkmarks on the "no" side, and so just keep them all out. Consistency is a false label.

I am actually enjoying the Reilly slide from his perspective. I think he has just finally said "fuck it, they're paying me" and kicked his feet up. The average length of time to write each column cannot be more than an hour. He is the Carl Pavano of sportswriting. Or maybe he's the Kevin Spacey character from American Beauty who is just trying to get thrown out of the office.

I would just love to know at what point he stopped caring.

He's in the final months of his contract and nobody expects him back. Apparently, he's going to the Golf Channel or something like that for an even bigger raise.
