Very true. The Hoyas of the 80s were like the New York Yankees, you either loved them or hated them. Someone coined the term "Hoya paranoia" because Thompson wouldn't let many players talk to the media, wouldn't tell anyone what hotel the team was staying at, etc.

After Michigan runs VCU off the court, Sparty lays the leather to Memphis (41-25 edge on the boards and an awesome flagrant foul).

How many mid-majors wind up in the Sweet 16? We're guaranteed two, either San Diego State or Florida-Gulf Coast and either Gonzaga or Wichita State. And Saint Louis seems to be a solid pick. But the power conferences should have at least 12 spots, even accounting for an upset.

How are you defining Gonzaga? That's a major program in a mid-major league.

    I don't consider the Billikens a mid-major.

I completely overlooked Gonzaga somehow. The No. 1 seed next to the name probably threw me off.

Why not? They don't have a football program and don't play in a major conference and haven't even been a long-time power like Gonzaga.

    Watching Louisville-Colorado State.

Considering how the "Larry Eustachy Story" always starts and ends with Alcoholic/Natural Light in Columbia/Fired/Southern Miss Hell, how in the world has Rick Pitino kept his job? I know he's won big but his issues were a Code Red compared to Eustachy.

Can't tell me Eustachy doesn't pop open his 17th can of Diet Coke for the day, look across the court at Pitino and think, "you lucky bastard".

When did we just accept B1G for Big 10?

Uh, yeah. I doubt that is coming from the newsroom. Or I hope that isn't coming from the newsroom

A few years after people accepted "Bucky" for Wisconsin and "Sparty" for Michigan State.

    That and its logo.

C'mon, the A-10 is not exactly the Great West or MEAC. And lots of established basketball powers don't field football teams — five of the Catholic 7, for instance.

They're not on Gonzaga's level, but SLU has been solid for a long, long time.
